Does anyone keep photo records of the fare maps over time? (i.e. those that you see on top of the GTMs with the fare inside circles, bearing a significantly different design from the one we see in the trains)
Do you still use this fare map to estimate your fare? Or has its significance faded over time since the GTM can calculate for you?
I'm quite interested to find out or know who are the people who designed the very first fare map and what are their challenges (e.g. no technology to assist in their drawing? difficulty to decide where to twist/bend/arch). now with more lines popping up, how can they fix more lines in and yet still display the information clearly, or are they going to ditch this entire thing?
(remember that the NEL became a broken branch on this map...)

What do you mean by broken branch? This map shows NEL together with NSEWL. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fe/DhobyMRTGTM2.JPG
This is the maps at Orchard station in 1989. http://www.trainnet.org/Libraries/Lib003/MRT-TVM.JPG

The transit maps used in our MRT wasn't founded by us Singaporeans..We, like other countries, took our design from the England railway transit maps, which was first designed by a Harry Beck..
Can check it out here..

its actually very easy. just make it geographically accurate.

hmm.. the first problem encountered by early England railway transit with geographically correct transit maps was that it looked very messy, and what users really wanted was a map that states how to get from station to station, which gave birth to Beck's design..
So.. I was wondering, will this same problem become a big headache for us Singaporean commuters if such geographically accurate map is ever launched?
they seem to have officially retired this fare map thingy :(
yes tranquilice I'm referring to that. wow the 1989 fare map looks so different..
