Hi folks,
its discussed before that there are "orange indicator lights", on the front & side of MRT trains? May anyone share what's the name given to them and their purpose, pls?
Does anyone have SMRT trains Driving Console pics of the different models to share please.
Thanks.
:-)
Maybe we can learn the parts of the trains and their identifications too.
The orange indicator light in front is to show whether it is in auto or manual mode.
Automatic mode (AM) - no light
Coded Manual (CM) - orange light displayed
Restricted manual (RM) - blinking orange light
AM - normal train operation under Automatic Train Operation (ATO). Driver will just open/close doors and ensure nothing untoward happens
CM - manual driving. The driver will drive the train at the speeds indicated by the speed code (e.g. what speed at which stretch along the track). Normally happens in less-than-ideal train operating conditions esp. during rains. That is why you will see the orange light turned on during a downpour.
RM - restricted manual. The train moves veeerrrryyyy slowly, at speeds below 18-20 kph. (A rare sight!)
The side orange lights will be on when the doors are open.
AM: Automatic Mode - (view kench-an's post)

CM: Coded Manual - TO drives manually according to speed limits along tracks. Required during raining or when there's a notice telling the TO to do so.

RM: Restricted Manual - TO drives manually at a maximum speed of 15 km/h. If the TO accelerates, the motors will cut off at 15 km/h. Used in depots or when there's a notice telling the TO to do so.

The side lights indicate whether the train doors are opened. The side lights will turn on also when the cab door is open.
some notices that asked TO's to drive in CM mode is...
Raining, Race Day, Crane Working Ahead.. etc
seldom we get to see trains in RM mode, unless there is a need to do so. but in normal circumstances, AM or CM mode are the one's used mostly.
