Yes, I am a female. I wouldn't say I am a train enthusiast or a train fan. However, having been working in the train industry for about 5 years, I should say I know the trains quite well. I would say, at least 40% of my department and the train design department are females. Our knowledge on trains are not just knowing the train number, the year that it is made, the colour of the seats and the sound of the train.
Before buying of new trains and open for tender, a whole team of staffs will hold numerous meetings to discuss on the design and specifications of trains require. Even simple control and mechanism of closing and opening of doors will take weeks to discuss. After that, contractors will submit their designs and members will have to review each and every design documents submitted before deciding which contractor to be awarded to. Factors like the energy consumption, the efficiency of the brake and propulsion system, the safety features, the signalling and communication equipments onboard the train and even spares and warranty. After the trains are shipped to Singapore, countless testing and commissioning are conducted before they are announced fit for revenue. The biggest challenge comes after the testing is to maintain the whole fleet of trains. The trains in Singapore are made by different contractors and they are made from different era as well, ranging from 1987 till 2009. The diversified technologies and sub systems are definitely a challenge for the maintenance team.
Nonetheless, I know the female comment is just a casual remark cos I've dealt with the media before. They always like to have 'sparks' and 'dramatic' reports.
You will be coming down to KCD on Friday? So I think I will be seeing you there cos most likely my staffs will be in charged of the tour.
Welcome to train forums!

Upcoming events might be...

If I know I will answer your queries. However some of the information is confidential. For instance, I cannot tell you when CCL 4 & 5 is opening. I can only say, later half of 2011. :) Also, I'm not from SMRT.
I'm really disappointed with the way forumers in this forum who are irresponsible that they have to bring up such a huge commotion when there's only an interview of a mere 10 people. Please, be responsible next time.
Things that are kept private should not be known to people. Doing this is only rubbing salt into other people's wounds. This is a public forum and not a private one, anyone can read this thread. Please have the maturity to be responsible for your actions.

If you are not from SMRT, then I guess you are from LTA (Assuming that you are not lying, quite interesting to see your 1st post saying working in train industries and yet not from SMRT and it simply cant be SBST rail). I know that you cannot be one of the train manufacturers such as Alstom. (I got my reason to believe so)
Ah ber, unless alstom come up with the tender specs, and alstom do the bids.
Originally posted by Dragonaxe:LOL, You guys know that for CCL there ae 2 signs right?
The "SET BACK LIMIT" sign and the "STOPPING" sign right?
That time, I was taking the train to Paya Lebar from DBG. I saw the stopping sign there. When it stopped at Dakota, the train under-run 1 cm LOL, could tell since there was side windows and I could not see the sign fully lol
Not just CCL. NSL and EWL should have them too, but on the tracks.

Look, if she is from Alstom or other similar company like Kawasaki, then firstly, she wont be reviewing the designs, and hold meetings to discuss the new train's requirment. This is quite obvious.

Oh yeah, right, should be LTA bah, SMRT/SBST has no control over the designs, DTL haven't even have any operators yet they already have the designs.
You guys are very fortunate as someone had initially wanted to e-mail the jornalists a saved copy of the thread and photos that Samuel Lee took when he sneaked and trespassed into Bishan Depot but I pursuaded him not to, and let bygones be bygones.
Imagine what the repurcussion would be for this community especially in the aftermath of the Lloyd Dane Alexander and Oliver Fricker MRT vandalism incident.

Actually I hope to see CCL4 and 5 open by March 2011, because CCL3 open on May 2009, CCL 1 and 2 open on Apr 2010, so it got some logical pattern.
BTW, if that is the case, will it be opening at the same date with Woodleigh as well? (Its a pity that Woodleigh is not an interchange with CCL, if not epic win le)
Wonder how the annoucement will be like when the train skip Bukit Brown.
