3/x - 4/y = 1
7/x + 2/y = 11/12
simultaneous equations cannot work?
Just X2 to the 2nd equation and you can use elimination to get x and then get y using x.
can show me the full step???
3/x - 4/y = 1... (1)
7/x + 2/y = 11/12... (2)
(2) X 2 is 14/x + 4/y = 22/12... (3)
(1) + (3)
3/x - 4/y + 14/x + 4/y = 1 + 22/12
3/x + 14/x = 34/12
36 + 168 = 34x
x = 6
Sub x =6 into (1)
3/6 - 4/y = 1
4/y = -1/2
y = - 8
Is this a O level question? Substituition method can also be use which is the method normally i ask my students to use but for this question, elimination is the quicker and simpler method to use.
wohoo thanks..
No problem.
Simultaneous equations are normally 1 of the easiest type of questions in O's especially since its the only few you can double check your answer so practice more and ensure you can do them regardless how they phrase the question.
