Can someone help?
1) Edward, Felix and George took part in a 60 m race. When Edward crossed the finish line, he was ahead of Felix by 10 m and ahead of George by 20 m. Felix and George continued to race to the finish line without changing their speed. How far was George from the finish line when Felix completed the race?
2) At a bookfair, Tom spend $6 less than 5/8 of his money on story books and $2 more than 7/9 of his remaining money on reference books. He still had $10 left.
(a) How much money was left after Tom bought his story book and before he bought his reference books?
(b) How much money did Tom have at first?
Thanks.

1) In short, George travelled 40m when Felix travelled 50m and Edward travelled 60m. Hence, for every 5m travelled by Felix, George will have travelled 4m.
Remaining distance from finishing line for Felix = 10m
Distance George will have travelled when Felix reach finishing line = 4 X (10m/5) = 8m
Hence, distance left for George from finishing line = 60m - 40m - 8m = 12m
2)Still thinking.
2) Amount spent on storybooks = 5/8 of total money - $6 = 15/24 of T.M. - $6
remaining money = 9/24 of T.M. + $6
Amount spent on reference books = $2 + 7/9 of (9/24 of T.M. + $6)
=$(20/3) + 7/24 of T.M.
Hence, remaining money = T.M. - amount spent on all books
=24/24 of T.M. - 22/24 of T.M. + $6 - $(20/3)
=2/24 of T.M. - $(2/3)
=$10
=.> 2/24 of T.M. - $(2/3) = $10
=> Total Money at first = 12 X $(32/3) = $128
Money left after buying storybooks only = 9/24 of T.M. + $6
= 9/24 X $128 + $6
= $48 + $6
= $54
