I've got into bioengineering in NTU.
Initially my choices were
first choice chem engineering, followed by bioengineering, then EEE,
materials engineering, mechanical engineering. I was accepted into
bioenginnering. However, i was a bit disappointed as i wanted chem
engineering. Also I do not have got any bio background. May I know if
the future prospects of bioengineering will be better those more common
engineering like EEE? Also will I suffer if i didnt have any bio
background before?
How good are you at memorizing? And how fast do you pick things up?
You will have some difficulties, but it isn't that bad and you can pick it up if you put in the effort.
Prospects wise, it's not that bright. At the moment the real places are more in research. Otherwise will probably end up as technician/salesperson. Nothing wrong with doing maintainance and sales, but it may not be what you want.
Research wise, you won't be able to do it with only a degree. Must get a masters at least or phd
i still prefer EE :(
cuz I graduate as EE :)

You must tell everyone " I graduated from EE with 1st class honours, almost got the LKY gold medal, but I am a tutor right now. "
Please don't mind my sarcasm : D

I'm still gainfully employed as a full time electrical engineer
cuz EE and ME graduates got more chances on employments mah
(that's if TS is asking about job prospects)
tutoring is only sideline ok
It's my way of helping students score. Many people still telling me I charge too low liao, so I can actually earn more, but not doing so...
but of cuz, at sgforums, there are many things I didn't and don't say... So not surprising if people think I'm just a full-time tutor who is dumb enough to only teach tuition full time even though I got a good enough resume to find work in most companies which can pay equally well.

But how come you are so free the whole day if you have a full time job? 0_o
None of the mods ever mention anything about it.
Back to the TS, take bioengineering only if you have the confidence to be the cream of the coup. Otherwise take up EE or ME, they may be considered more 'common', but they will allow you to have a better chance of securing a job in the future.

Depends mah
There are days where I will be very busy... it's a on and off thingy...
Most of the time, I manage the engineering operations by sending emails here and there to ask production operators or engineering support to help do things, while I coordinate... It's a job whereby if u finish the things before the deadline, it's ok... ;)
And now is pre-lunch time so more free.... email pple they also not there to look at it anyway :D

Oh, a fingering job. No wonder so free :P ( Don't mind my sarcasm again )
Psst...what are the criterias for becoming a moderator?
how about specializing in biotechnology and working for Genentech's new plant in Singapore?
u all dun like dat. i failed to get into any place in NTU. hahas.

So where do you plan to go now?
Private institutions? Work? Re-take your "A"s?
You are the boss of this forum afterall...

uni grad engineers are employed for their analytical skills, and not their ability to move their limbs
there is no issue with the bio thingy.
ALL engineering student will take the life science module in year 1.
NO. You will not suffer with no Bio background as most of them dont take biology.
Prospects?
Most of the uni grads in this year cannot find jobs. Friends that I know who are taking bioengineering:- IBN (1), Biosensors (1), Construction (helping father) (1), Post-grad Sing-MIT (1).
I think in terms of prospect, it is similar to other disciplines.
Oh engineering degree is very stressful - can you take the stress?

Even among ee graduates, eagle is special...
He is literally the cream of the coup, just too bad he isn't the tip of the cream : D
Well, he is the ONLY mod in the entire sgforum to have a 1st class honours, though I know that a few of the other mods also have honours with their Bachelor degree.

the scope of EE is very very big
Not all grads will need to do circuits designing, etc, etc, etc
