Hi,
For DSA applications, is it compulsory for you to have a niche area? I think yea. My friend wants to apply for it but I told her that only students with certain specialisations can go for it. Am I right? thanks.

Yes you will need to be outstanding in a certain field, be it sports or the arts ( e.g. music ). Different schools will also require you to have different minimum academic standard.
but just try lor.. ! hahahaha ~ no harm whatttttt

You cannot just try. You must have something to offer to begin with for the schools to even consider you.
Hello!
I want to apply for DSA. However, it must be done through the online application service. I went to the websites of the various JCs I want to apply to but there don't seem to be any link for you to click to apply.
Does anyone know how to? I am checking out AJC and NYJC.
Anyway, my L1R5 is 9. AJC requirement is 8. Will I get booted out immediately?

Relax, it is starting in June, that is why links still not up yet.
As for application to AJC, if you got 9, you will not get booted out straight away, they will still put you in for consideration, so don't worry.

Academic. But under AJC's column, there's this part under science research too. I think I could put that in since I have participated in some competitions which have won awards. By the way, if you go under academic category, does it mean they won't lower down the cut-off points for you as like the sports and arts area? Because after all, they are talking about academic results. So does it make it "useless" for you to apply if you go under the academic category? If yes, I'd rather not apply and save myself the hassle of going thorugh interviews.
And by the way, do you think MJC will be a good choice?

not really useless. if you have ok academic result, then you have your science research thingy, you might stand a chance.. but im not too sure too.. i think you stand more chance if you have leadership skill? or sth like that..
MJC? er.. i thought AJC and NYJC's rankings are higher than MJC's. i myself is applying NJC.

Academic and Science Research are 2 different categories.
Academic is for those who have top their Sec school for the past 3 years, and/or those who top competitions like New South Wales ( Higher Distinction ).
Science Research is for those who have participated in uni-level science research for at least one full month, and/or taken part in big-scale science research competition ( e.g.SYSF ). In this case you will also need A1/2 for at least 2 Science subjects and also both E. Maths and A. Maths.
And you do not need to worry, even if you get a crappy 20 points for your "O" level, they cannot kick you out once they have already accepted you in.
MJC is alright, average JC.

One question. Do all schools require you to sit for some academic ability test?

Not all JC, but most.
Excuse me Forbiddensinner, but MJC is NOT average. It is of the same standard as NYJC despite being a young college, which shows how good it is, in fact. 7 years only and already chasing up to the standard of GOOD JCs.

Isn't NYJC also an average JC? There are only 17 JCs if i'm not wrong, not top means average if not bottom la.
Need some help here.
I called up NYJC's admin to enquire about the DSA. They said the application form is available online. But heck, I have been checking since Saturday and the only info. there is is the selection criteria and the procedure. No forms at all. Would someone help me take a look? Thanks

Looks like you have no choice but to apply for another JC instead.
That is, unless you believe that you could do well enough for your "O"s to get direct admission.
has anybody here gotten confirmed offers from any JCs already?
hmm, i know the acceptance period is 29jun - 28 jul but does anyone know when do JCs usually offer confirmed offers to DSA students anyway?
