hey guys, what is the difference between the 2?
how to find h.c.f and l.c.m. of 36,48 and 60
For HCF, you need to break them down into all their factors such as 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36 for 36.
Work out all 3 and you will get HCF as 6
LCM is different since its their common multiple meaning for 36 its 36, 72, 108, 144 etc etc
My ans is 720 but lazy to check whether there is a smaller number. Not sure whether this is the right method though cos its so long ago.
36 48 60
/2 18 24 30
/2 9 12 15
/3 3 4 5
/3 1 4 5
/2 1 2 5
/2 1 1 5
/5 1 1 5
LCM = 2 X 2 X 3 X 3 X 2 X 2 X 5 = 720

H.C.F. is the highest common factor of the 3 numbers.
For 36, the factors in it are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 36
For 48, the factors in it are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 16, 24, 48
For 60, the factors in it are 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, 60
In this case, the HCF will be 12, as it is the largest factor present in all 3 numbers.
L.C.M., on the otherhand, is the lowest common multiple of the 3 numbers.
For 36, its multiples are 36, 72, 108, 144, 180, 216, 252, 288, 324, 360, 396, 432, 468, 504, 540, 576, 612, 648, 684, 720
For 48, its multiples are 48, 96, 144, 192, 240, 288, 336, 384, 432, 480, 528, 576, 624, 672, 720, 768, 816, 864, 912, 960
For 60, its multiples are 60, 120, 180, 240, 300, 360, 420, 480, 540, 600, 660, 720, 780, 840, 900, 960, 1020, 1080, 1140, 1200
In this case, the LCM will be 720, as it is the smallest multiple to be present in all 3 numbers.

your method works.

Oh yeah careless about that 12. Thats what happens when i'm lazy to write them all out :p
