Any one wad is the exact meaning of intangibility in terms of service? cos its say cnt be felt. so how to determine intangibility
And anyone that have difficulty in usderstand some words or terms can post here. let's learnt tgh =D
Intangibility is used in marketing to describe the inability to assess the value gained from engaging in an activity using any tangible evidence.[1] It is often used to describe services where there isn't a tangible product that the customer can purchase, that can be seen, tasted or touched.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intangibility the definition is as above.
Intangibility in terms of service.. It's like.. Go Extra Mile for Service(GEMS).
Eg. If the customer got feet of both different sizes, the customer service officer is willing to find shoes that match his/her size (meaning two different size of shoe), BUT without charging additonal cost or showing grumpiness.
You can also say it's like "Someone doing things which are not within their job scope (they have the right not to do it), but they go extra mile for you to get things done".
Eg. You're a tourist in a foreign country, and your car broke. You don't know who to do, and then you saw one of the bell boy at the hotel (he sees you too). He walk up to you and gave you a phone number to call a cab or something and even offered to valet your vehicle. That's intangibility in terms of their service.
Something that is worth mention, but it's not tangible. In Business, Intangible assets things may be included are good location of biz, good workers, etc.

The four characteristics which distinguish a service, you are studying marketing, aren't you?
Let me give you some quick and simple explainations
Inseparability - A service can never be separated from the service provider. An example is that you need a maid to be able to have a maid serve you.
Variability - Variability expresses the notion that a service may vary in standard or quality from one provider to the next or from an occasion to the next. You can see the different waiter(ess) standards across different restaurants; and how sometimes the waiter(ess) serving you at a restaurant will be more polite and nicer as compared to another waiter(ess) serving you at the same restaurant during another visit.
Perishability - In short, service cannot be made in advance and stored. Unlike physical goods, service is a hands-on thing, and you can't store it so as to use it another time.
orh. i studying tourism. all these is the characteristic i need to demo in real life. can give some examples? so tt i can rephrase my onsite observation to fit the exact meaning. thks real lots man!
