what is the difference between direct entry & direct entry by merit?
i'm currently wondering what course i should take in NP/SP. can you suggest a course based on my interests? i don't like science/maths/business and i wanna get a meaningful and decent job. any suggestions?
if i go to poly, will i get a chance to go uni? anyone from poly got into a SG uni?
and by 2012 or 2013, how many uni's will there be in SG?
and is it hard to get a GPA of 3.5 and above? thanks (=

I got into uni from SP with a GPA of 3.3 so its not always 3.5. It depends on course.
If you like none of those, all you have remaining are IT and design related fields to consider since everything else requires science or maths.
There should be 5 by then if we consider UniSIM and the new 1 is supposed to be catered more for poly students.

actually i was thinking abt environmental engineering or smth. it looks quite gd, but pplsay out of all engineering this is the worst one. and UniSIM only accepts 21 and above right? =.=

You will be above 21 after NS right? Don't aim for UniSIM as your 1st choice la...
Environmental engineering has bits of chemistry and physics in it. If you dislike sciences, are you sure that is what you want?

I did Chemical Process Technology in SP and now doing Chemistry and Biological Chemistry in NTU
Just aim for the main stream uni and take UniSIM as a last resort. Its degrees are still not as recognised as the rest yet.

either real estate/property(sp) or Civil and environmental engineering(np).
basicallly these 2 course are classified under built environment, so as you all know built environment has alot of drawings.
So do u like art? or are u good in art?
- And it also depends on the course u want to go in uni, lets say if u aim for those hot courses, using ur diploma i would say its rather hard to get it as compared to those with A levels.
-By 2012/2013 there will be 4 public uni.

And i guess u are just 15 this year? take it easy, attend poly open house to see what courses interests u.

How is your preparation for the coming test ?
You should "cheong" for as high as possible for your GPA in the first year.
You should start "dating" Eagle now for your Poly Engineering Maths lor.

hi... you may wanna try life science/biotechnology. Dont worry its not like physics and chemistry that your learnt in sec school. it is more like biology and it is very interesting and the prospects of life science in the future is very good. After graduation from university can at least earn $3000 and above.
I do not know about GPA or wat (during my time dont have). So try your best, your very best in getting good grades. Get a diploma with merit, and you will sure be able to enter local Uni (NTU or NUS). Therefore, try your best in all subjects, dont just aim for 3.5, means every sem 3.5. Aim for as high as possible. Getting A and AD in polytechnic is easy in fact. Try your best.
If you are a girl, do not go into real estate. Because if get out of poly without degree, your pay would be like 1.8 - 1.9K. Diploma in life science without degree can get you over $2K if you are lucky and good. Real estate with degree (merit or pass nia) will get you only $2500. Only with at least a second upper then can get you over $3000. But then if life science with a normal degree can get you over $2500 easily.
So do consider your choices wisely. It is not wise to just aim 3.5, because if your last sem do badly, it will put down. Aim higher than 4 la... ok?? Polytechnic is easy.. you can do it.

Where did you get your salary info from since the last time i read about starting salaries for poly grads. None of them hit 2k so lets not even say over 2k

for chemical engineering,my lecturer told me poly students need to get gpa of at least 3.8 in order to enter NUS or NTU.
