Let's have a discussion on your personal study methods here. Study methods on how to absorb knowledge, retain them and eventually apply them. I know different people have different study methods that only specially suit them but I just want to hear what they are like...
1. read through and understand throughly .
2. draw mind maps... ( grasp overall concept )
3. understand it , or if needed, memorise ( main point )
i think it will be better to firstly understand den memorise ... make memorising work easier too lol! :3
there is different ways for different subjects i think. very hard to define them generally.
I personally like to blast music while trying to memorize my 'mo xie' or something. helps me remember faster. o_o. I also dk why. haha. like noisy environment.
do lots of questions with understanding.
Open book or not doesn't matter. Most important is understanding plus knowing which part of the book to look for the answer. After a while, you will internalise everything
Party 90% of the school term.
Cram everything one week before the finals.

I totally oppersite, i cannot stand loud music, noises etc if not i will go crazy without even needing to start studying
For me, I would do personalized report/notes regarding about that chapter on a particular subject. Usually my notes would cover the essential that is needed in my syllabus plus a few notable point/info.
Figures and Tables are use very often in my notes to illustrate a point or concept.
Though the info sources that I gotten are from internet, I paraphrase them before typing down (to ensure I know what I am typing, learning, and absorbing).
For maximum memory retention, I reviewed my work/report/notes again after one day.
This is a good read:

Interesting, learn some of this in my basic psychology module but won't go further into it since my friend strongly advice me not to take cognitive psychology.

I agree. Different subjects have different study techniques. Personally, mine is all about using mnemonics. Read notes before lecture. Listen during lecture. And going through 1 more time after lecture at the end of the day by creating those mnemonics & notes with key points/mind-maps. And most importantly, do as many practice questions as possible! Especially for subjects like Math. My friend told me his method once: All he does is read through once. Then just do as many questions as possible from workbook/tutorial. If he doesn't know anything, just refer to the textbook/notes on how to do it. The reason he does this (reading through once only) is because he says he would get "sian" if he keeps staring at the same facts all day long...

I strongly advocate this
I did that for a 3rd year module and got A for it even though didn't pay attention in class, but was surfing sgforums

Maybe you got an A because you were surfing sgforums.
Sgforums is like listening to Mozart.
Really.
Anymore people want to share their study methods?
