Mr Tan bought three times as many badges as toy cars and spent $144 in total. He spent $84 more on toy cars than on badges. Given that a toy car cost $10.40 more than a badge, what is the cost of a badge?

Cost of Badge l__l__l__l Total = $144
Cost of Car l__l__l__l_____$84_____l
Cost of 6 units = $144 - $84 = $60
1 unit = $60 / 6 = $10
Total badge cost = $10 X 3 = $30
Amount of Badges l___l___l___l
Amount of Cars l___l
Cost of 1 unit of badge = $30 / 3 = $10
Cost of 1 unit of cars = $144 - $30 = $114
Amount which 1 unit of cars cost more than 1 unit of badges = $114 - $10 = $104
Amount of badges in 1 unit = $104 / $10.40 = 10 badges
Cost of 1 badge = $10 / 10 = $1
Thanks for the help.
