The figure shows a hemispherical shell. Find the volume of the solid.

When we calculate the volume, why can't we just calculate the volume of the 4cm hemispherical shell since that is the only portion which can hold liquids? Pls enlighten...

What they want is the volume of the solid not the volume of the water it can hold. Vol of solid can be calculated by taking the volume of the whole hemisphere deduct that of the small hemisphere.
