Hi,
I did a quick scan of two books about mathematics of banking/finance and saw some familiar H2 maths topics they highlighted:
- Mathematical induction
- Recurrence relations
- Inequalities
- Probability
- Sampling
- Binomial distribution
- Poisson distribution
- Normal distribution
- Hypothesis testing
- Linear regression
Students who are interested to work in the banking/finance sector should master these topics well ;)
Thank you!
P.S. The books are:
1. An introduction to the mathematics of money by Lovelock, Mendel and Wright.
2. The mathematics of banking and finance by Cox and Cox.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
The concept of Recurrence is also applicable to programming
Concept of probability is also applicable to buying of equities
The whole branch of statistics is applicable to people doing quality control as well.
So stressful now.
Before even embarking on a career, have to start taking subjects to match that career.
Haiz.
Are they for quants?

Yes.
All quant subjects.
But to qualify as a "quant" in the industry, you need to have a phd at least.
I looked at the table of contents from Amazon.
The first book looks like something an undergrad would do, the second book doesn't look like an undergrad text, maybe not quants but for industry practitioners.
A strong foundation on statistics will make it much easier for students when they proceed to study further in economics eg in the econometric modules where students are required to formulate economic models and do economic forecast.
