  Miss Jones asked the children in her class, "What is your favourite colour ?".

  The reults are given as follows

  8 children chose green.

  10 children chose blue.

  1 child chose red.

  6 children chose yellow.

  5 children chose other colours.

  (a)   What is the mode ?

  (b)   What is the mean ?

  (c)   What is the median ?

  mode is 10

  mean is i donno, not i donno, its i not sure.

  median is 30/2 = 15

  so 15 is blue.

  Oh hor, you forget your E.Maths liao.

  Mode is the item that has the highest frequency.

  So, mode is blue since the most number of children (10 children) chose blue.

  Your median is incorrect too.

  This question is fun as it is not the normal statistics question as the item given is

  not a quantitative unit, instead the given item ie colour is a qualitative unit.

  ya i know mode is the highest frequency, thats why i choose 10 mah, actually i wanted to write blue, but since this is a maths question so i write 10.

  Im sure u get my idea rite?  pls give me half mark cher!

  and pardon me for forgetting E maths because engineering maths (A maths) is so much easier than E maths.

  Mean = Average Colour

           = (sum of all the values of all the data)/(total number of data).

               8 x G + 10 x B + 1 x R + 6 x Y + 5 x Other colours

           = ----------------------------------------------------------------

                                  8 + 10 + 1 + 6 + 5

           = ?????

  There is no mean in this case as different colours cannot be added

  ie there is no average colour.

  This is the fun part of the question.

  Most questions will have a mean but this particular question has no mean.

  You have confused frequency and item in the finding of the median.

  Median = (15th item + 16th item) / 2

  But, for this question, we cannot arrange all the 30 items from the smallest to the

  biggest ie in ascending order as we cannot say which colour is smaller

  or bigger ie we cannot arrange the different colour in ascending order (or

  descending order).

  So, the 30 items cannot be arranged in ascending order and

  so there is no 15th item and 16th item and so there is no median
