Jane, who is living in Britain, would like to visit Singapore for a week during the "Great Singapore Sale". Before coming to Singapore she bought some Singapore dollars. The rate of exchange between the British pounds and Singapore dollars($) was 1 pound = $3.02 She also had to pay 1.5% commission for the money. She bought $2500 from her bank. Calculate the total amount, in pounds, she paid to the bank.
Firstly, I think the question was a bit misleading. The answer I have in my TYS is 840 pounds. I calculated and got a different number because I thought the question was asking for the amount in interest paid to the bank since in the end, that was the money received/earned by the bank. If that's the case, I'd get about 12++ pounds(that is commission paid). However, what the question wants (Not sure if answer is reliable) is the amount Jane paid to the bank for the exchange, which means how much she handed over to the counter the moment she got into the bank.
Could someone please clarify this part and tell me whether I should follow the answer of 840 pounds or 12+++pounds? Thank you.
840 pounds..
Indeed, the question is misleading..
But..
Seeing that the question asked for total amount..
And Jane is exchanging with the bank so..
She will have to fork out $2500 which is 827++ pounds..
Plus the commission of 12++ pounds..
Just don't think too much into the question..
Afterall, some people do say..
People who are efficient in maths, sometimes just can't set maths problems as well..
They still need someone efficient in english to proof read their questions..
*No punt intended*
Cheers!
