As title, is it possible? My class was not offered POA when we were sec 2. But actually there is but then my school only had 1 teacher and now shes gone. Okay i guess you guys don't care anyway
BUT TO CUT THE STORY SHORT. Is anyone able to self study POA yourself from SCRATCH? Im currently sec 4 this year and my friends(3 of us) are going to write in to the principal to allow us take POA. And yes im in NA. Is there a lot of topics? And is POA humans or maths?
I read this thread >> POA (updated 5 feb 09) and dont really understand what he is saying...
Thanks in advance for whoever can assist me!
POA is math type, it involves simple addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, but there are also a bunch of standard theory questions like what it's used for, advantages, advices etc
It's possible but i think it's going to be pretty hard to understand the concepts completely without a teacher.. TYS will be very useful for you.
i admire your persistence, a good way is to get yourself a tutor
master the format. i used to be damn slack in class for POA. started self-study with the help of 10 year series book, and i got a B3. quite satisfied with myself.
i tell u no u also gona study it right -.-'' ?
POA is considered a humanity subject, and it will be really hard to self study. Best is to find a tuition teacher.
kinda hard.
its not exactly only addition and subtraction.
u gotta understand the concept behind it, which can be pretty mindfucking.
POA is not anything like maths u dumbshit.
You don't say Science is English just because the contents are in english douche.
The mathematical techniques involved is too basic for it to be related to mathematics.
POA in secondary school is very much like book keeping. Its all about the order of which you enter specific details and knowing what adds to what or what minus off what.
Yes, you can study it yourself. But it won't be easy. You will need tons of practice. No kidding. You will definitely need lots of examples too.
It will be difficult to study by yourself lor.
it's a humanities subject.
first u ask yourself, you got the base of the subject first or not? if don't have forget about it hard one. if have, it's actually quite easy. common sense one.
even in everyday life everyone's using the concept unknowingly.
i got A1 for poa in secondary, but when i look at poly's accounting. i catch no balls at all at first. lol. it's hard when it got advanced.
read cover to cover can liao what

can, but since time is definitely not on TS time, someone with accounting knowledge's help will definitely benefit him.
Its hard trying to grasp something new by yourself.
Possible, but hard.

y so fierce!
its possible..but it will be difficult. I take poa myself. now also sec4. The topics are quite alot and some is really hard to understand. It's best for you to get a tutor. U need to keep practising and have to understand. Don't try to memorize it. I tried before and during exams the question comes out..im blank.
So anyway, get a tutor if u wanna do POA :D
Hey, it is possible. I consider my case a self study though i was offered in sec 3 & 4.
Cos I was failing all the way and I didnt knew a thing. Then I started to study it by myself and got B3.
Possible.
hey its possible, i took it in sec 3 and i was getting E8 until sec 4 midyear and i studied and got b4 in the end (:
Well, yes, you can ask your teacher/principle to allow you to take POA... if your school do not offer this module... You would need to take the exam in another school during the general examination.

Hahaha. This made me laugh quite a bit.
self studying of POA from scratch will be difficult. especially for the 1st few chapters, which is very crucial to the whole O levels syllabus! however, i believe if u put in the effort and ask ard for guidance or private tuition, POA is not so difficult to matser... OF COS, getting A is another issue. btw i am also from NA stream, when i was taking POA, I rmb that my classmates and I mostly scored A1 or A2 for this sub in both N and O levels. All the best to u!

So were you sort of studying yourself with no teacher as you were the only one opting for it or something else? Care to clear my doubt?
Thx for the advices people! Really appreciate it a lot. Since it doesn't involve that much calculation its not a maths subject. The nerve of my senior calling her class triple maths(e/a maths and poa)! I really have no basic at all for this subject actually. Im also keen to taking this subject due to i hear people getting distinction easily ><!
Well i guess my only solution is to find a private tutor. Hopefully by June next year i can finish the whole syllabus. Anyone can reco me some good tutors please do not hesitate to pm me!
calling POA the 3rd maths is like... unless u telling me using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is beyond ur means! otherwise, it is well within most of our ability. I din take Amaths but still do well in POA
oh... i know of someone who gives pte tuition for POA students. where area do u live in?
I think our moderator, tinuviel, also teaches that?
