Usually in exams, we are told not to extract the stories from model essay booklets. However is it ok if we extract the idea and modify a little of it? that isn't plagiarism, is it? Just to clarify my doubts. I'm afraid that some ideas used in the exam may "clash" with those written in essay books.

It should be fine to just use the idea. I don't think the teachers read every single model essay to know whether u stole any ideas from them.
use the plot, but dun wholesale copy, if another candidate read the same story, and use, the teacher mark both of your essay, die.......
writing narrative or argumentative essay?
narrative can't really steal, must have a good imagination and be creative to weave a good story
argumentative not that easy, if you can't handle writing essays at such a level then please don't, remember, its o level english, a very vital subject, can't afford to blow it all off because you decide to geh kiang
i had a friend, very proficient and good in english, in the end kena d7
anyway argumentative got no right and wrongs (iirc) but if you can state and justify your case well, no problems.
Simple lar....
let the story have a different ending...the ending has to be non-conventional ending...
example, instead of living happily ever after.....make the male lead abandon the female lead...

Hi bratorbread,
The pro is that you will usually be able to write such essays in any form that you desire, be it narrative or argumentative. You will also be able to expand in many directions, as per your own desire.
The con is that some markers can be bias, and if you write something which they are not very fond of, they can mark you down for it, even if what you have written is logical and acceptable. Being able to expand in all sorts of direction can be a con too, as you find yourself stretching out too much in various aspects instead of focusing on a few aspects.
Cheers.
plese dun write story about robots and love.
full stop.
