Q. Susan bought a total 1200 yellow and blue marbles , of which 15% were yellow marbles . When she gave away some marbles , the percentage of blue marbles became 70% of the total number of marbles left . How many blue marbles did she gave away?

Hmm... something seems to be wrong alright.
Could it possibly be 111 instead?
6b - 3g = 110
b + g = 84
b = 84 - g
6(84 - g) - 3g = 110
504 - 6g - 3g = 110
504 - 110 = 9g
394 = 9g
g = 394/9
b = 84 - 394/9
b = 84 - 43 7/9
b = 40 2/9
Hence, there are 40 boys, 43 girls, and 1 who is more girly than boyish at the farm (he or she took 9/5 apples, by the way).
If all are straights, the difference should have been a multiple of 9 (504 - d = 9g), ie. "108 more apples".
110 divided by 6 = 18 ( round down )
84 - 18 = 66
66 divided by 2 = 33
total boys = 33 + 18 = 51
Ken had $20 more than Minnie at first . After Ken had given 1/5 to Minnie , Minnie had $64 . How much does Minnie have at first ?
I realised I suck at using models to do Primary School Math Questions. Why can't I use Algebra instead??? :(

K: x + 20
M x
After
K: 4/5x + 16
M: 6/5x + 4
6/5x + 4 = $64
x = 50
I still remember during my PSLE in 2007 I did something like this... because I sux at drawing

I'm not sure. I think my student typed for me wrongly... :(

Yeah create an equation first.

The thing is, my students have not learnt Algebra yet. I don't want to show that something that would confuse them. I know how to do all the questions (Marbles, Minnie) using algebra but not via model. Can someone show me how? Thanks!

180 yellow, 1020 blue
After
3x yellow, 7x blue
assume that yellow marbles never change
180/3 = 60
7 x 60 = 420
1020 - 420 = 600
like tt can?

Anyone calculate? Is my answers correct? If not I want to redo...

At first
Ken l____l____l____l____l____l________l ( Big one = $20 )
Minnie l____l____l____l____l____l
Now
Ken l____l____l____l____l______l ( Big one = $16, since 1/5 is given away )
Minnie l____l____l____l____l____l____l__l ( Small one = $4 )
Hence, $64 = 6 units + $4
6 units = $60
1 unit = $10
At first, Minnie = 5 units = $50

Should be okay, cause I think this question also missing something, for there is more than one answer to it.
Hey guys, thanks for all your help this while. The Minnie questions is finally solved using a model (I got $50 too). Thanks to forbiddensinner for that. :)
I also think there is something wrong with the marbles question too...

yes have to assume.. i tried using simultaneous equation, change here and there but still cannot.. haha! a bit silly ar me..
