what does poly direct entry mean? like for some of the course in SP and NP, it is stated there will be direct entry into 2nd year of uni. i don't think it means you can straight away go there no matter what u score right? then how do you qualify for this direct entry thing?

Hi Blacktoast,
Yes, it does mean that you will enter 2nd year straight away for the particular uni course, provided that you manage to get admitted into that particular course. This is because the first year modules for that uni degree course is already taught in the poly course.
Cheers.
Direct entry is only possible for all the engineering courses.
Once u get admitted into the uni course, you will be sent a list of exemptions and u can choose to have ur 1st year exempted or to take the 1st year like the JC students.
Those who take direct entry into 2nd year will have to take a few extra bridging modules so their timetable is abit more packed than usual but they do save 1 year of education.
Those who decides to start as 1st years normally do so to strengthen their foundation as well as to score their A's since being able to be exempted certain content should mean you already know it well and is a good chance to fight for some As since its harder later on when everyone is on equal footing.
Direct entry for life sciences also possible for only NTU.. direct entry into second year. But is only provided if you get diploma with merit. Normal diploma, you still need to go through year 1.
For NUS, no matter who you are, for poly students you still need to go through year 1, but exempted for 5 elective modules.
