hello...i'm sec 2...i got my results..i failed my maths badly..i got 45..and my school offered mostly A maths for the express stream. i failed my maths but got and A for science...i applied for double science..and i have passion in science.but the irony is double science required A maths..so yes, will they put me in a double science though i failed my maths....i would i given a chance to try in pure science though i failed my maths...
i heard i could drop my A maths when i reach sec 4...
but the question is will they qualified me to go to double sciences though i failed my maths but excel in science...
now..during the holidays...i tried..my best to improve E maths..help me...give me solution...
share some opinion!
i also scored 40+ in maths when im in sec 2. My school allowed me to take amaths too, though i think they allowed everyone to take amaths.
Although almost everyone in my school struggle in amaths at the beginning, many of us still score A1s in prelim exam and tests through constant practice(like doing homework assignments and Ten Years Series in sec 4).
Don't drop amaths.
Period.
Yes, if you got a chance to take A math. Next year chiong more tys and assessment books. You will get A1!
don't worry, i barely passed maths when i was in sec 2 ages ago.. managed to take A maths, which i flunked all the way till prelims, where i bucked up and did pretty alright for o levels.
maths is all about practice and practice.. don't give up! look forward to it! all the best!
No irony there. A good scientist is also a good mathematician. You can never really do well in science in the future if your maths suck.
Whatever the case, do not drop your A Maths under any circumstances. You are going to need it in order to go to uni.
If your grades are good enough, you are likely able to enter a double Sciences stream based on merit alone. I know of a lot of people who fail Maths in Sec 1 and 2, but got into double Sciences stream because their grades are good enough. Sec 3 and 4 when they are being drilled, they all score pretty well for Maths. Even if no As for their Maths, at least a pass is obtained.
Don't drop A Maths. You will regret it when you enter poly or JC.
ouh..thanks...i was totally relieved when i read your feedback...i decided to take tuition andi promised to myself that i really practise my maths..
BUT I REALLY HOPE THAT MY SCHOOL WILL PUT ME IN DOUBLE SCIENCES CLASS!!
CAUSE...I GOT 91/197 FOR THE COHORT! HOPE THEY WILL ACCEPT ME EITHER PURE SCIENCES OR POA PLUS A MATHS..CAUSE I DONT WANT TO TAKE ARTS STREAM..AS I WAS TOLD IT DOESNT HELP IN JC..AND I WANTED TO GO TO JC...:(
well it depends on ur overall grade n how many classes of double sciences ur sch decides to open also...but hopefully ur science grade will help u in n that they DO open up more classes for double sciences loh, good luck=)

i doubt tuition really helps much. u must put in the extra effort too.
and i wonder why people want to go jc when the syllabus revision is getting more frequent and more topics are excluded. in my opinion going to jc will only mean that u are letting your results in future to determine which course are u qualified to go in university, and does not necessarily mean u know what you want to do when u grow up.
amaths btw is not just for admission into jc science stream. it helps even for those students who are planning to go poly especially engineering courses.
to darkhour...thx..but my school only open one double sciences class...sob! sob!
i was discourage when my senior told me that i was NO chances of getting to the POA and double sciences..cause i failed my maths...
i hope thats it not true...
and i dont want to appeal for it...i hope my teachers give me a chance cause i improved my science and maths alot compared to mid year! so yes! its hard to tell now!!!
hope theres still a chance for me to enter the sciences or the poa and A maths...as A maths helps alot in my eduacation life...
btw,i got 60 percent for overrall sa2...;(

wah one onli?but how many triple science?hopefully the smarter ones all go triple science loh then leave u a space for double lol...well no point worrying so much la, all u can do now is pray....HARD xD
Take Amaths, you will be amaze by the headstart you get in poly as compare to your peers who didn't took Amaths.
Most ppl think Amaths are difficult and have the mindset that "My e maths sucks still want me to take Amaths".
My advide to those who that this mindset.. take Amaths. You will be surprised.

POA is not very related to Maths actually; to do POA you only need the basics ( addition, subtraction, multiplication and division).
You still can pick up A-Maths in Poly (its a must for entry to JC) and that to enrol into NUS you must have A-Maths so its basically when you study and not a type of choice in the end ... ...
don't worry, i take POA, double sciences, and amath despite failing in math during sec 2 too. It's not like the whole level did badly, i was like one of the only few people who failed math that time. Thanks to art which many people neglected, my level position is not too low.
Good luck

For my RP, A Maths = Advanced Maths. I only took it on year 2 sem 1 as my elective module, taking it helps to enrol into univeristies in Singapore, but only if you pass this module get at least a C for overall grade (UT + daily presentation).
Anyway, there are two parts of Advanced Maths. So, for what I had taken was: A Maths Part 2 which is about linear equation (basic algebra etc...)
And I would be deciding to take A Maths Part 1 during Year 3 sem 2.
Thus, there won't be problem to understand and pass it if you do most contributions with the teammates in every of the lessons for both A Maths modules and score well for the UTs too.
yes! thanks you guys...i was so ignorant about this thinging!!haha...
i took A maths...and i hope they accept it!
ermm...to qdtimes2:why your school accept you to the double sciences class.. i still dont understand...
rt
haha...mine is worst still
maths:45
sci:83.
but mid year pull down my grades to
maths:45
sci:68..
worst right :(
failed my maths...
you still can apply for a A maths class
but about me! most classes offer A maths
Take A maths, it is easy. You just need to do practise and can easily get A1/A2.
Really, believe in youself.
hahaha...i try..but the problem is will they accept me...i failed my E maths...sob!
how about you? when you were at my age,did you pass or failed your E maths?
btw,thx shootme! :D

I got 51 for my maths in sec 2 and got A1 for both E and A maths in O's. Its not impossible.
if you don't get into double science, combined sciences isn't a bad thing also.
in fact, you might even be able to focus better on combined sciences since each component will be about 70% of the pure subject itself.
i didn't get into double science class when i was in secondary school.. but i focused and worked even harder to get a good grade for combined sciences, and it's really not that difficult to do well for combined science.
so even if you don't get double science, it's not the end of the world! all the best anyways.

btw, thanks for your opinions! app it truckloads!
