But I'm unsure of what to pick, SS/History or SS/Geography?
Could you guys advice me on the pros and cons? And what is the difference between History and Social Studies? Are they similar? Would it be better if I choose SS/History if they are similar?
Which will be more useful, will I need Humanities in JC? Please help me. Thanks!
Hist or geog depends more on the student, diff ppl have diff interests and thus will do better in either 1 of them. However both are not as easy as lower sec standard so you should not base your decision fully on that.
Everyone will have their own preference for hist or geog so its best to decide urself base on ur own interest rather than depend on other here and later blame others if u don't do well do don't like what u study.
U will need a contrasting subject for JC but it doesn't have to to geog, hist etc but u can do H1 Econs as ur contrasting subject.
Is SS and History similar? Is it better if I choose that?
there is no pro and cons
u like the subject just take it, ah gua leii. zzzz
ss and history are quite different in the areas of studies except for one or two topics. for pure history, do remember that other than malayan and singapore history, you still have to do international history.
Yes, SS and History set practically the same type of questions. All that differs in between the elective is the content studied.
Pure Geography is like pure biology. The subject you either mug your ass off for or you fail. The end.
I won't bother with this anymore. Enough people have recommended SS+History as your subject.
geography better

Congrats on being ever so helpful in describing why "geography better".
It is with all my heart that I feel "the lousiest express class student" is better off taking SS+History rather than SS+Geography or Pure Geography.

Once again, very helpful on commenting about "geography better".
unless youre very interested and into nature and stuff related to it , anything less than that, just go for history. geog is mostly about mindless memorising whereas hist is very very similar to ss. just my opinion.
Why is History better!
dude if you want to learn about the past, go study history.
if you want to learn about how river and the nature comes about, go learn geography.
Take geography because the history course in sec 3 is worthless.
History easier to score?
Don't know about that but the history course in sec 3 is basically totally worthless. so you will be just wasting time on a useless course.
That is why I suggest geography.
Why would you say that it's useless?
It's useless because it doesn't train you to think critically or analytically about history events and you won't pick up skills of a historian.
It's basically a form of propaganda brainwashing.
Selling propaganda.
Huh? Some same History some say Geography... Is there any stickied thread on this? I don't mind if it's not from this forum.

Okay, I recommand a book on history to you.
You go and read the book and then read the sec 3 history textbook.
Read below book:

You will understand why the sec 3 history course is basically totally worthless.
Don't waste time on it.
trust me.
Haha but then the advantage is that you practice ur source-based questions, writing essays, etc more than your Geog-elective classmates counterparts. So in a way, u do get more extra practice, honing your skills both for SS and Hist since both papers have the same format, but different content

Write more rubbish what's the point?
That is like posting more walls of texts in this forum.
Moderators aka your teachers see also sian.

If not, what choices do you have? You cant escape from it unless you go enroll in overseas' education system. Does this mean that you did not study for your social studies, thinking that it it has a propaganda motive (which I did not disagree with), so you decided to sacrifce your grades on that subject?
i had an interest in geography, so i took it.
still, It depends on your interests.
If you would like to do essays after essays, source after source history is for you. - it's risky though, if you mis interprete the source, you had it. Level 1 Marks.
Geography is easier to score imo though - you have things like map reading, short questions. and essay questions.
