I am a J1 student currently going to be a J2 to next year. I have subscribed to the Time and Newsweek magazines. Frankly saying, I DO NOT know how to read them. I am serious. I mean, I want to know how to read this magazines CORRECTLY. What to look out for when reading them, where is the essence of those magazines. Most importantly, how could reading those magazines benefits my studies in JC? GP? How? Need a good answer here. Thanks.

Hi MrTongzz,
Reading these magazines increase your general knowledge, thus allowing you to use the knowledge you have obtained in your GP essays.
There is no definite way to read the magazines, though some students will highlight the good sentences and phrases, note them down, and use them for their own writings, be it in GP or other subjects such as Geography and History.
Cheers.
TS do you know how to read english? if you do not understand a word, check the dictionary for its meaning. I started reading ST sportspages when I was in sec 3.
read and memorize all the facts.
you will need the general knowledge

Those magazines are biased in favour of USA. You won't learn much about foreign politics or international affairs by reading them.
I suggest you dump them.
I can provide online sources to you where you can learn real stuff going on in the world.
Real high politics.
TS are you sure you got time to read both magazines?

suggest u look at the recent GP papers and den think about what to look out for. i think that would be better then most of the replies here=x
ohright. if i were u i would read broader perspective. thats why ppl order for JCs.
aiyah just read anything lar, from reader digest to ST or even fortune mag. the issue is do you have the time and the motivation to read? if you read for the sake of it, you will not get much out of it as you are just going thru the motions.
You can simply try reading them for some general knowledge and update yourself with things that are happening around the world. These information can help you in substantiating your argument in a gp essay. Also, Times is pretty much useless. I'd suggest you read Newsweek instead (:
Also, you can classify some of the information you've gathered into various sections like Politics, Media, and Youths for example, for easy reference (:
both mags are two among my many other choice reads!
I have done consumer research with Time warner.
Heres some guideline that may help you to organized in terms of information...
Newsweek.......is basically a summary of News on a weekly basis..across region. If you have no time to go thru news on a daily basis Newsweek give us a summary. It provide some indept discussion of certain topics that affect people across the region.
Times magazine is more focus on certain issued, personality, events. on a given month. or trend....
These magazines are cater to wide range of readers....so maybe just pick one if you cannot handle both...

Arapahoe has already stated ...
"Newsweek.......is basically a summary of News on a weekly basis..across region. If you have no time to go thru news on a daily basis Newsweek give us a summary. It provide some indept discussion of certain topics that affect people across the region.

And please try to refrain from punctuating every single one of your sentences with a vulgarity. Once or twice would bring the message across already. This is a homework forum, mind you.
I also already stated:
Those magazines are biased in favour of USA.
You won't learn much about foreign politics or international affairs by reading them.
guys stop quarrelling ._.
Thanks everyone, really learnt alot here. except that fight going on. So I guess Newsweek is rather a better magazine in terms of CORRECT knowledge I will gain since TIME is rather bias against some countries which I truly agree. But sincerely, thanks.
