Hi I'm in sec 3 nxt yr and I'm allocated to a class without A maths.I would like to knw if nt taking A maths in O lvl can I take it when I'm in Jc or Poly or can I take it in sec 3 but study by myself and take O lvl as an extra subject?I'm very interested in A maths & gt 71 for maths in sec 2 which is an A2.
I'm taking eng,mt,e maths,combine phy & chem,SS & hist,POA & geog.
in JC there's no add. math, only H1, H2, H3 math. i think the prerequisite for all of them would be add. math knowledge in secondary sch.
if you really want to take math in JC that is fine, but it's not recommended cos you will have A LOT of catching up to do - especially the basics which would have been covered in secondary sch. to make things harder, you'd be on your own for those.
H1 maths is about the same as O's A maths

It depends, but I'd recommend you to do A Maths, whether u go to poly or jc, as it would be useful in some courses like engineering, business etc and JC maths. If you are allowed to do A Maths as a private candidate or as an additional subject, go for it!
If you do JC Maths, most likely they will make you take H1 Maths, as you need a good Add. Maths foundation to do H2 or even H3 Maths.
A maths is a pre-requisite for H2 mathematics, if you dun have A Maths, H1 mathematics is all you can get

in most colleges it's still possible to take H2 math without doing add. math in sec sch, but it's strongly discouraged. similarly, you can take bio (or whatever subject) in JC even if you didn't in sec sch. but most would agree that it's akin to shooting yourself in the leg.
I am unsure if the date for appeal about your subject combination is over, but either way, fight to get Amaths.
You have already read above how important Amaths is.

Hi peipei,
You are not allowed to take A Maths at "O"-level as a school candidate if you self-studied it. Hence, it will be best for you to try to appeal to have the subject or enter a class with it, though it is possible to take H1/H2 Maths in JC without it.
Cheers.
So far, I only know YJC and MI allowing their students to take H2 without A maths...

Hi eagle,
JJC also allows students to take H2 Maths without A. Maths, though they will need to go through a Bridging Course.
Cheers.

TS, your question is not phased properly.
Are you saying that while you are studying in studying in JC, can you take Add Maths ?
JC does not offer add maths BUT you can take add maths as a private "O" level candidate while you are studying in JC.
If your concern is that due to not taking add maths in "O" level, will you be able to cope with "A" level H2 maths (or H1 Maths) while you are studying in JC ?
There will be no problem to cope with "A" level H1 maths.
But there will be a lot of problems to cope with "A" level H2 maths if you have not studied add maths in "O" level.
The advice is to get help on the pre-requisite add maths knowledge for "A" level H2 maths before you enter JC.
