Okay, very complicated story. This concerns streaming. Before i tell u guys everything, i do some intro first. I'm in the na stream in sec2 but got transfered to sec3 express, my current combination the teachers gave me is , EL,CL,Emath,POA,combined humants(hist),sci(phy+chem),AMath is it advisable for me to switch back to my original choice? - EL,CL,Emath,POA, combined humants(geog),sci(phy+chem),Pure hist
For some info this is my results for End of year exams.
English : 71.7 A2
Chinese : 69 B3
Science : 84 A1
Math : 67 B3
History : 87 A1
Geog : 70 A2
Literature : 69 B3
D&T : 79 A1
F&N : 82 A1
ART : 81 A1
i think yr orginal choice will be good for you as your subjects such as history , comb. sci and comb. humans. have quite good grades.
So are you advising me that the comb that hav pure hist would be better for me?
yup . because you have good grades in yr history. But yr school still allows you to switch back meh? School is starting in few weeks time..
I dunno...i will try to persuade my teacher, anyway even with the change of subjects i will still remain in the same class..i hope there isn't any problems
yr class has 2 different combinations?
Best class triple sci, 2nd best double sci , 3 and 4(which i'm in) either two humants or two math , plus 1 sci and poa, then last class 1 sci, 1 art related 1 or 2 maths
btw, 8008s, how old are you huh? Which lvl at education now?

Hi Aloysius ...looking at what your grades is ... I will recommend u take the teacher recommendation
Amaths is a crucial subject if u want to go Engineering in the near future .if you do not have this subject , you will suffer alot in Poly taking the Engineering Maths Syllabus ...
i am a person who take the poly engineering route 12 years ago ...
and graduated from electronics engineering
But bro, i not very sure ley...cos even in sec2 na math, i'm not very sure what my teacher is saying in maths lessons...i only understand basics...i took a look at my seniors tests and stuff i scared sia...but i also worried take two humants need a lot of 'labour' hehe
I would prefer you take the Amaths route.
You will realise that is more important than history when you finish your O levels.
Why? Can you elaborate? Thank you very very much
Depends on your Math skill. I myself was a Sec 1 Express -> Sec 2 NA -> Sec 3 Express student. Graduate in 2008 and now I am in Poly Year 2 (IT).
I did have my A Maths but even my E Math near pass (That means fail, dude). My E Math on Sec 2 not hum tumph one ho, got some decent grade like > 70 but average in algebra, within top 10 ~ 15 on my class (My Sec 2 NA got a lot of Maths pro). Main thing is, if you take A.Maths, then you must prepare yourself good in Algebra for things like differentiation, Permutation & Combination etc etc. (Look, if you are poor in Algebra, then E.Maths can let you suffer some, and A.Maths will kill you.)
Sure, I have taken a hard route to myself and that is it, but, you need to know A.Maths requires Algebra A LOT. And if you do not intend to take Engineering course in poly, then the use of A.Maths is limited. (I took an IT course, but if got A.Maths then got big advantage since in the 3 yr time, there will be around 1 maths module, excluding special enrichment like Diploma Plus.)
PS: Unless you show true interest on humanities (History), I do not see the point getting Pure History since combine humans allows you to score very well in most cases.
I understand that since you have good grades in history naturally you will be more interested in history lesson.
I was like you. I love social studies/history in secondary school.
But when i grad and get into a poly, I realise that SS/History/geo/F&N are all useless subjects.
You won't use it. Whereas Amaths, you will surely use it.
Nobody is going to ask you when singapore gained independance or what hilter did in world war in future.
Study those subject you will use it in future. Example Amaths, Emaths, Science. Don't study those subject that you only use it up to your O levels.
Think of the long term. It might be hard for you to think this way at your age. But this is just an advise from me.
Its ok if you insist on switching back to your orginal choice. All the best.
Hey Aloysius95, A maths is very important.
You need A maths if you want to join science stream in Jc, at the same time most of the courses in poly also required A maths background(even businness courses)!
Don't worry that if you are weak in Maths because practice makes perfect. Among all subjects, Maths is the only subject that I can gurantte to you that when you put in your hardworks, you results will definitely improve.
My maths also sucked when I was a sec student, mainly due to my laziness and not paying attention during lessons >.<
Okay thanks for everybody's advice. Appreciate : )

A. Maths is generally more useful than History, unless you aim to be an Arts student.
If you can tell us what diploma course or JC combination you aim to take, it will help a lot.
From my personal experience...just know what you want & go for it...http://limitededitionwatches.org/
