i dun understand as tcher say that pressure is same throughout the whole liquid in hydraulic press as pressure in fluid acts in all direction but in barometer or marometer,pressure is different depending on the height of mercury level at a certain point in the tube.presuure higher when the point is lower??and what is the pressure at the tip of the u shaped tube,manometer,the most bottom touching the table?i dun understand pressure.appreciate if any help given.

uhm pressure is the same in all directions in a vast amount of liquid, because they cancel out one another. pressure is dependent on the height in a mercury tube because there is the weight of the mercury exerted on the point, so the lower you go, the more weight of the mercury there is so the greater the pressure. the pressure at the tip is zero because it is vacuum in the tube. hope that helps (:
