Hi Forumers, this is the primary 6 maths problem sum..
Questions:
Last year the enrolment of school A was 60% that of school B.
This year, the enrolment of school A was increase by 60 and School B decrease by 20. If the enrolment of school A is 75% that of school B this year, what was the enrolment of each school last year?
___________
Please advise me how to do this sum, please show the steps also.
Thanks alot.

Primary 6 learnt algebra already eh? I think this is correct =]
School A [] [] [] [] [] []
School B [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] []
This year
School A [] [] [] [] [] [] + 60students
School B [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] [] - 20students
School A(This year) = 6units + 60students
School B(This year) = 10units - 20students.
6units + 60students = 75% x 10units - 20students
6units + 60students = 7.5units - 15students
75students = 1.5units
1unit = 50students
what was the enrolment of each school last
year?
School A enrolment last year = 6 units = 300
School B enrolment last year = 10 units = 500
Hi Johnny..thanks alot I was stunt and dont know how to teach. knn last time pr 6 only +, -, / , x. Now got this type of question.
Hi JON, I dont get what you mean by this: 75%x10units
6units + 60students = 75% x 10units - 20students
6units + 60students = 7.5units - 15students
75students = 1.5units
1unit = 50students

An easier way to look at it will be
[[6 units + 60] / [10 units - 20]] X 100% = 75%
So, [[6units + 60] / [10 units - 20]] = 3/4
And yes, there is simple algebra in P6 nowadays. However, questions like this can still be solved by model drawing and fractions.
when i first read it, simultaneous equations came into my mind..but i forgot this is only pri 6..wtf..
Thanks everybody.
I am able to understand and will tell my kid.
I am total lost for this kind of maths.
Already forgot how to do liao.
Once again, thanks!!!!
I still have few maths questions to ask.
But will let you guys know.
Thanks ya.
Hi mod, can I ask primary six maths or science questions over here?

Question :
Last year the enrolment of school A was 60% that of school B.
This year, the enrolment of school A was increase by 60 and School B decrease by 20. If the enrolment of school A is 75% that of school B this year, what was the enrolment of each school last year?
Steps :
1. Draw the bar model for last year
A l_l_l_l_l_l_l
B l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l
2. Draw the bar model for this year
A l_l_l_l_l_l_l + 60 = 3 units
B l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l - 20 = 4 units
3. By comparison for school A,
1 unit = l_l_l + 20
4. So, 4 units = l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l + 80
5. By comparison for school B,
l_l_l - 20 = 80
l_l = 50 students
6. Hence, the enrolment for last year was
A l_l_l_l_l_l_l = 6 x 50 = 300 students
B l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l_l = 10 x 50 = 500 students
