Hi all,i'm currently a couple of months into finishing my NS.Have thought of furthering my studies..But well results can't make it to local uni..thanks to our gd govt's policies. As a result,i;m looking at 2 courses in SIM.RMIT Marketing & UOL BBA with honours.
Have a question, hope you ppl out there who are currently working in the market can enlighten me regarding this issue.
How much is a difference in terms of job prospects, pay with a honours degree compared to the normal bachelor degree even if its 2nd upper class what so ever..or probably can advice me regarding the quality of education for those 2 above mentioned.
A private institution honours degree cannot be compared with the honours degree from NUS, NTU and SMU.
A private institution honours degree graduate will only earn about the same pay as a bachelor degree graduate from NUS, NTU and SMU.

I think he already gave up on local unis since he knows he cant get in.
Now is just a matter of choosing which overseas course to do locally.

not really true. SIm UL and UOM programmes are recognised in civil service i beleive.
NUS, NTU, Singapre Management University is out for average students like us.
SIM RMIT is much better and more widely recognise but more costly per year.
UOL is also recognised but the perception that it is still an external degree causes employers to think twice about hiring such graduates. But the cost per year is cheaper
If you can get in to both, choose RMIT but UOL is though it is an external degree.

Actually the government's policies are already very lenient. our local universities are already relatively easy to get in already. they accept like 20% -30% of the entire cohort. in fact, i think they should limit to 10% or less. because if everyone has a degree, then the importance and privilege of having a degree is reduced greatly. the worth of certificates is less. so please don't complain. i'm not pro-government, i'm just saying that if you work hard, there's no reason why you can't even get into the basic universities

SIM RMit is NOT better than NUS law, medicine, dentistry. SIM still does not have a reputation that can match NUS. their students are not as outspoken as those from sMU.

I didnt know SIM RMIT has law, medicine, dentistry courses locally...
if anyone wants to do these courses locally...they must get into NUS....otherwise go overseas....there is no comparison.
Reputation-wise...yes...SIM does not enjoy a better reputation but their target students are different.
SMU students being outspoken....I dunno...neber seen one in action...but then again...talking a lot doesnt mean making sense of what they are talking...no offense to those SMU ppl...
talking skills can be learnt without going to SMU. wats the big deal?

SIM does not have law or medicine. that's precisely why they are not as full-fletched and developed as nus

for other universities like SIM for example, they do not enjoy the experience of SMU students. i.e. seminar style teaching and world-class professors. it's true that students from other universities can speak well, but speaking well and rationally with persuasion is something which distinguishes nus, smu students from the rest of the smaller universities

What do you mean "if"? An undergrad degree's not a whole lot of good these days, and Honours is still entry-level.
If you want to go to pte school to study, please go to SIM.
Don't go to those schools like TMC and MDIS or you will regret it..
yes i must admit that i'm a average student my whole life since the day i stepped into sch.Got average PSLE grades of 22*.L1R4 of 15,got into poly..got a average GPA of 3.0..Having tried local uni admissions for the past 2 yrs ,failed in all attempts..

Yes they are. Sign on as SAF regular officer skip one bar after passing out of OCS.
And to TS, I can't advice you on which to choose, but don't think too badly of yourself. You did what you could anyway.

I just remembered something.
You can try entering the Diploma course in NIE, and crossover to the degree program in NTU after 2/3 years.
I chose RMIT Business over UOL's Business Courses.
RMIT courses are good for polytechnic students who have studied polytechnic.
0.5 year exemption for any poly course*.
1 year exemption for any business related poly course*.
* Applies for most business courses.
For marketing course, its 1.5 year course for poly students who studied business in poly before. If other courses, its 2 years.
RMIT is towards project based. UOL is towards examinations based.
RMIT does not offer honours degree... But then the degree does not state (external degree) like UOL.
You may check sim website for more course details... and probably want to consider visiting SIM when it has its open house... which i tink will be sometime this month or next month.

I dont think UOL states the word "external " anymore. Btw, there are other alternatives UOM and UOB, BOTh are sister unis of UOL.

same...well, we can't blame anyone but our laziness. haha...i applied rmit-business management. no exemption for poly students without business dip leh. well unless NS is considered as WORK experience?
SIM does considers NS as work experience.

Well, if one is successful in life, he can't possible be a loser, right? He is just not as academically outstanding as others.
However, academic results are only a small portion of life, unless you have a really high aim in academic studies (e.g. Getting a PhD). Thus, to the TS once again, I will copy and paste this once again:
"don't think too badly of yourself. You did what you could anyway."
the trick to winning is not thinking about losing. WHen u think about losing, u eventually lose.
