Just as stated above, im just curious if my results i just gotten for a levels is able to enter a local university, most prolly NTU, in the engineering sector. If its possible, may i know which engineering has better prospects and is much more enjoyable?
What i wonder is i see that the 10% percentile requirements for all engineering courses has no D's in them, so if i have a D, and the 'cut off' points is BCC/C, can i use my A in H1 to 'cover' up my D in H2?
Hopefully you guys get what i meant, thanks alot for any advice! Peace!
Go ahead and apply for all the courses you're interested in, in all 3 Unis, but be realistic and start preparing to retake your 'A' levels in 2010.
Also, check directly with the Uni (eg. NUS engineering dept) whether they allow you to use your 2009 PW grade for 2010 'A' levels. If they do, it's a 12 months expiry timer.
You can apply for the courses. Just apply and try your luck. You never know until you try. Maybe this year's cohort is lousy.
But if I am not wrong, local universities accept B-B-B average as minimum 2 years back.
there are the 'lousier' ppl who got bcc/c that entered engineering 1-2 years back, and they fall in the 10th percentile, so im wondering if my bcd/a can make up for the d =/
think if you apply for the more traditional engineering courses should be able to get in ..
courses like mechanical, civil and electrical engineering may sound old fashioned but think there is still demand for these engineers..
IT related course also seem to have fallen out of favour these days.. but computer science/ programming related skills are still useful
lastly also pay attention on acquiring soft skills like communications, entrepeneurship
if you want a place, any place, i'm sure these set of grades is more than enough. calculated using university score system, your score shouldn't be too low.
your grades can definately get you into a local uni. shld be NTU.
i got BCC/B. =/.. played too much during my jc time.haha
hoping to get into FASS in NUS.
ere are the NUS, NTU, SMU Indicative Grade Profiles.

hey.
honestly i think u cant get in to engineering.
i got bcd/b 2 years ago and got rejected flat by all 3 local unis for 2 years straight.

well at least i got one realistic answer, but i still keep my hopes high.. what i want to know is whether i should put materials engineering as first choice, which i really wan to enter but has lesser chance to enter and place civil or common engineering as 4th or 5th choice which i have higher chance to enter.. anyone can advise on this? thanks :)
and also, on the ntu application site, it does not ask for my h1 grades, is this true throughout that they dont care about our h1 grades? if this is so, i guess its even lesser chance to enter, but if they do, maybe higher chance..
PS: club18, may i kindly know which course were u applying over the past 2 years that you got rejected? thanks mate
hey dude,
applied for fass (hopeful) and common eng for both nus and ntu and got rejected.
actually i think i even applied for real estate as one of the bottom few choices, still rejected.
for ur grades i would say either sign on, go nie, go sim or overseas (that is if u dun want to retake).
wtf. common knowledge.
GRADE PROFILE ASSUMES GP/ PW IS A 'C ' GRADE. go count ur score urself ba. o_o .
then h1 and h2 the 10 and 20 marks. i also lazy repeat. =)
Hi. Can anyone tell me what does 10th and 90th percentiles means?

if there're 100 people taking an exam, and you are ranked 1st, you're the 100th percentile.
if you are ranked 2nd, you're the 99th percentile.
if you are ranked 10th, you're the 90th percentile.
if you are ranked 90th, you're the 10th percentile.

so for poly to go uni, we look at the least, which is 10th percentile?

my friend CCE/E can get into common eng NTU leh!

Hi gunner77,
The 10th percentile represents the grade which 90% of the undergraduates admitted scored above, and the 90th percentile represents the grade which 10% of the undergraduates admitted scored above.
I will strongly advise that you do not look at the 10th percentile for admission purposes, since it can fluctuate greatly from year to year.
Cheers.

Either your friend appealed, or he took the special admission route.
If neither is the case, then he must have been admitted quite a number of years back.
You need the total university score computed by the university to determine your standing among the cohort before grant of admission.
