History
The name Moulmein is derived from a city in Burma. Many streets in Moulmein have been named after towns, places and rivers in Burma. It is said that the Burmese street names in the vicinity of Balestier, resulted from the wish of an important Burmese resident. Burma, now called Myanmar, was a part of the British Empire at the time. Examples of these streets are Akyab Road, Bhamo Road, Irrawaddy Road, Mandalay Road, Martaban Road, Minbu Road, Moulmein Road, Pegu Road, Prome Road, Rangoon Road and Shan Road.
There is also the Burmese temple there:

Moulmein is well known for its temples. In Tai Gin Road, there is a beautiful Burmese Buddhist Temple which was officially opened in 1991. This temple has now become another attraction in Moulmein, popular with devotees and tourists alike.
