Hi, I have a question about the minimum requirement of the polytechnics, namely the L1R2B2 scoring system. I can only be able to test for 3 O level subjects, English, E Maths and Physics. My question is, will I be able to go to poly with just 3 subjects? The scoring system said that it need the first language (which is English), the 2 relevant subjects (Maths and Physics) and 2 best subjects which I lack because I only have 3 subjects. Or maybe the 2 best subjects can stack with the other subjects?
When I went to Nanyang Polytechnic site about minimum requirement, almost all the courses read that it need at least 3 other subjects (not including english and math). But the engineering course read that it only need English, Math and a Science subjects, which just make my head spin.
btw I have no previous experience with O level and I'm taking the test as a private candidate.
you need at least 5 subjects to go poly!!
English (at least D7), Mathematics, Science (both at least C6) and any other 2 subjects.
pass only 3, you are not eligible.
What if I take 5 subjects, but fail the other 2 subjects?
I think u shud give the polys a call. they will be able to explain to u.
do note that diff courses require different subjects passing

2 subject fails : 2 x 9 = 18 points
How good are your English, E-Maths and Science anyway? A1? If it's C5 or C6, I say forget it, you won't be able to make it.
3 Subjects C5 : 5 x 3 = 15 points
Total : 18 + 15 = 33 points (Where can you go?)
Ultimately, it will depends on what course you want to take in poly and which poly you like to get into which your O-Level results will greatly affects.
Do take a look at the recent Cut-off Points (COP) for poly courses if you haven't taken a look at it yet and think whether can you make it into your preferred courses.
The COP shown in the link below can only serve as a guide, no one knows exactly what is the exact COP requirement for 2011. Depending on the popularity of the course, this year maybe COP of 10 for course A, next year maybe COP of 8.

Like what BuySellGames said, different course required different subjects, even if your L1R4 is good enough to get into a course of your preference, the school may not select you because you failed to pass the required subjects for that course.
Some poly maybe lenient enough to allow you to get in but not without condition which is to retake the failed subjects while you are studying in poly. Failing to pass the subject after the retake may results in poly kicking you out of the course even if you have been through half of the course.
Thanks for the reply everyone.
I apologise if this sounds stupid, but what exactly is a cut-off points?
Cut-off point means the highest point that got into that specific course for that year.
Example you got this grades:
English C6
E Maths B4
Chemistry D7
Combined Humanities C5
One more subject D7
C6 + B4 + D7 + C5 + D7 = 6+4+7+5+7 = 29.
if a course cut off point is 25, your 29 points has already exceeded the cut off point which means you cannot enter.
