Just got back A lvl results few days ago. Got straight Bs . Is considering doing engineering(traditional eng like mechanical, electrical etc) , however I was browsing through the web and I came across a few sites that suggest that engineering is a dead end career such that it is not valued in Singapore. Hence, giving me the impression that engineers in Sg are often unappreciated and not well compensated. Which leads to my point, is it worth persuing a degree in engineering? Or should I look at other alternatives? Any advice would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi,
Your results are above-average, so your choices are not limited.
Look deep into your heart and ask what you really want to do/be in future, rather than be influenced externally and be constrained by what the world wants you to pursue or become.
Always stay open to possibilities, and possibilities will be open to you. Good luck and may you get what you wish for!
Cheers,
Wen Shih

Let me just put this straight. For areas such as Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering, there are plentiful of foreigners, especially Indians, holding Master Degree and demanding lower salaries, who will compete with you.
Choose engineering only if you are interested in it, do not choose it just because it is considered a traditional or standard thing.
Looking at other alternatives is a must though, you are given 5 slots per uni, so do not just dump engineering on everything. Have a look at what else you can choose and what interest you.
It would be better to pursue a course in Business.
Many companies are employing Engineers from China and India.
