Hi everybody,I have science problem. Can anybody help me?
1)In an experiment,Charlotte put three different types of organsims in a jar. She then covered the mouth of the jar with a plastic lid that had small holes. The table below shows the number of organisms in the jar over three days.
Producer X Consumer A Consumer B
Day 1 2 1 1
Day 2 1 0 0
Day 3 1 0 Dead
Explain Charlotte's observations.
2)
Jameel puts a plant and an animal into a glass box each and places the boxes labelled A and B under the sun. After half an hour, he records the temperature in the boxes A and B. He notes that the temperature inside Box B was higher.
a. Which of the two boxes is more likely to contain the plant?
b. Explain your answer in (a)
3) Mrs Sim bough a non-slip mat for her mother's bathroom to help avoid falls. The mat has a textured top surface and suction cups at the back as shown below.
Suction cup (Bottom) ======= ==Texture top surface (Surface)
Explain how the top abd bottom surfaces are useful to help avoid falls.
Hi,
For Q1, what is puzzling to me is the difference between 0 and dead? Anyhow, suppose both consumers A and B go for producer X, what may have happened for us to witness the result in day 2? Could we imagine what the organisms are, e.g., plant and two plant-feeding organisms?
For Q2, what happens when a plant is placed under the sun? Ask the same question in the case of an animal.
For Q3, you can do research on the Internet about non-slip mats. Alternatively, you may visit any shop that sells non-slip mats and learn (from labels and sales persons) about how they help to avoid falls.
Wah, these science-related questions are inferential! Asking questions does help one to arrive at some logical conclusions and explanations.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih

Hi
For your first question, I think there is an error, for Consumer B, the number should read as 1 instead of 0 for Day 2.
Let me try to answer your question.
Consumer A is a plant eater and Consumer B is a meat eater. Producer X is a plant (leaves).
B feeds on A
A feeds on X
In Day 1, there are two plants, one Consumer A and one Consumer B. ------ (2,1,1)
During Day 2, Consumer A ate one plant. It was then eaten by Consumer B, the meat eater. ------- (1,0,1)
During Day 3, Consumer B starved to death because there was no food left (no Consumer A left). ------ (1,0, dead)
Summarise your answer based on the above thoughts and you should be on track.
Best wishes
Hi
In the presence of sunlight, the plant takes in carbon dioxide and releases oxygen through photosynthesis. Therefore, in box A, there will be more oxygen than carbon dioxide.
In box B, the animal takes in oxygen and releases carbon dioxide through respiration. Hence, there will be more carbon dioxide than oxygen.
As carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, it’ll cause the temperature to rise higher. Therefore, the animal is in Box B and the plant is at box A.

Hi
The textured top surface increases the friction between the feet and mat and prevent a person from slipping. The suction cups at the back of the mat help to hold the mat firmly to the floor so as to prevent sliding.
Best wishes
Ths everybody!
