Hello, im a Secondary 4 pure science student and im taking my o levels this year. I have been thinking about this for the past few weeks and cant seem to get answers to these questions by asking my peers and teachers
1. What are the admission criteria for top universities like MIT, Harvard, Berkley etc.
2. Are there any specific junior colleges in singapore that are recognized by these institutions?
3. I have read on the internet that to get into these universities, you need to be active in other activities, my school CCA is NCC(Air) and ive been actively participating in it, would it count for "other activity?
I am grateful for any and all help given. Thanks =)
u ought to be an all rounder.....that is what such top notch universities would expect....
good aspirations and those universities have boasted with prominent alumni...i.e. Nobel Laureates....Head of States....etc...
if it is affordable....by all means.....for me.....i still find NUS within my means and instilled many memories of good teachers (though not all) and friends ...no doubt it is academically intense....but nostalgic with friends made for life....
Most importantly, great education does not mean the external glamour upon graduatino (though most employers are)...but the growth and discovery of leadership within u...take charge and what u can do for your life and the society and the world...isn't that a Nobel criteria already?
7 A Level distinctions and you wont have any worries =)
It is good to learn more about the different routes you may walk through in the future.
1. I am not sure the specific admission requirements, but I am sure that you have to be the most outstanding ones to get in. Able to get into local university such as National University of Singapore (NUS) is already an achievement considering NUS's ranking in the world.
2. Ultimately, no matter which JC you are from, you will be taking the same GCE 'A' Level, it is the results that matter, not the school. You can come from a top JC but do badly, I am sure the university will not accept you either.
3. Yes, CCA and other leadership activities will be beneficial for scholarships and certain university interviews, it depends on the university.
1. You have to be in leadership position in CCAs, good recommendation from your teachers, apart from scoring As in all your subjects. Your application essays have to stand out too.
In addition, for MIT, an unspoken criteria is to have taken part in international olympiads at the pre-U level. That means being among the top 10 in Singapore.
2. They look for the above, not JC.
3. As in part 1.
money as well, if you're not getting a scholarship
