hello there.im sec 2 this yr. streamin at end of tis yr. :D
my MYE results tis yr
Eng:82 A1
H Chi: 62.3 B4
Math: 93.6 A1
Sci: 82 A1
Integrated Humans(we did geog only for this half of the yr): 68.7 B3
home ec: 81.4 A1
im plannin to take pure sci nxt yr.
pure sci options: Triple sci, pure chem/bio, pure chem/phy
which option shld i take?
im most likely choosin pure chem/bio...cos it has 2 humans(pure + ss/elect) while triple sci has 1 humans only(ss/elect)
im scared tat i'll fail that ss/elect in o'lvl. and that wil def. increase my L1R5 score. D:
but i WOULD choose triple sci if only it offered 2 humans..
pls give me some advice. explain too :D thx in advance!
well, did u like humans more or science more?
SCIENCE most definitely.
i like geog n lit but i cant stand hist.
haha. thx :D
double humans=memorise like mad
physics/chem combi is better than chem/bio to me.
hmm. i agree with Blasst. tat why im not THAT into humans.
i prefer to stay away from humans as much as possible. but im not too sure bout takin jus 1 humans in triple sci. is it too risky when calculating L1R5?
and i dun rily mind takin phy instd of bio. but im most likely not gonna take engineering courses in the future. is phy rily a better choice than bio? my seniors seem to think phy is better too.
haha. thx :D
Some people are naturally better in Phy, or Bio. It just depends. I'm taking Bio and it's not really that hard (I would literally DIE if I take Phy), if you're really interested in Bio, then you will find it easier than Phy.
Bio is more of memorising, Phy is more of calculations. I'm not really sure since I don't take Phy, but well, anyway, for humanities. I'm taking Hist/SS.
I mean, I find that it's btr for me to take Hist than Geog, since I totally hate Geog. Then again, it's your interest area you should consider. But some of my friends say that Geog is easy. I like Hist because first, well, I like History lol. Second, by doing Hist you would also learn, and practice Source-Based qns, which are also required in SS. It's just like you are killing 2 stone with one bird.
thx to arisenhorizen too! haha. u mean "killing two birds with one stone" :D
i see... i like chem the most out of the 3(its compulsory aniways) but i always find tat i do the best in da BIO sections in exams than in chem n phy sections.
ooh. source-based qns. i used to be gd in tat in sec1 but now, im not tat gd at it liao. hmm..i guess takin hist will b gd SBQ practice..
and i totally agree with choosing subj based on interest n ability :D
thx so much!
Bio = memorise. Phy is easier in a sense, you dont have to mug much. Its bascially calculations and mugging some definitions, formulars. Depends on what you like actually. If you are taking geog, prepare yourself for map reading, if you hate map reading take hist, since ss and hist are somewhat similar in a sense its source base and long essay questions.
thx TTFU :D
yah. i agree bout phy being mostly calculations. and A math would help in that. i dun hav much of a prob with memorising bio xcept tat it would take quite some time..
ooh. i like map reading. i did quite all rite in it in sec 1 too. but as in maps, do u mean topography maps or world maps? aniways, i did all rite in locating places on the world map as well. :D
im not that into hist though. i cant rmbr past events n dates tat well. but i'll b practicing my essay writin skills a lot if i take SS/hist, wont i? im ok in essay writin if i noe the key points. if not, im rily bad at it.
thx for ur explaination!
Actually no, phy is not that much related to A maths. According to the year i graduated 2007. Dont have to worry that much. topography maps yes, bearings and finding locations. In that case better for you to take geog/ss. Dont have to get troubled that much, since its the holidays now, Chill and have fun !
lol. yeah,i shld relax more now. hols are gonna end soon D:
anyhoos, okies then. im most likely going with ss/geog. and mebbe with pure lit.
aiya.we'll see..
haha, thx so much again! XD
I would choose triple sci with geog/ss.
Actually that was my subject combi in secondary school. Yeah I think it's quite risky with just one humanity subject but well... For me to give up any one of the sciences is too much for me. And TTFU I graduated in the same year as you... If you rmb the SS qns which came out for O levels they were all from sec 4 topics. I almost died for SS because I wanted to take a risk by just studying for sec 3 topics but thank god I didn't take that risk... Otherwise I might have a C6 for combined humanities :/
But for people like me who really CMI at humanities it's more advisable to do triple science... And sciences, to me is much easier because all I have to do is to understand the concepts, definitions, formulae and then apply during exams... Whereas for humanities need to have arguments, need to have specific examples etc etc. And for the sciences the questions are broken down into many questions so the marks are scattered out.
Another advantage of taking triple science is that next time when you go JC and go into arts stream, since you cannot take triple sci in JC anymore (i think. it was phased out in my JC but not sure abt others), say you take bio+chem. Then after A levels you decided that you want to take engineering. Although you didn't take phy H2, you can still do engineering coz you have O level phy (and do bridging). My friend was quite upset that she couldn't choose any engineering courses coz she didn't have O level phy.
So if I were you I would choose sth that gives me most options later on :)
I took triple science + SS/Geog
I never once regretted it
Go for it
But this may be risky, yes, so ss/geog really work hard can, never study so risky as wish as all sec 3 topics, but still can select some topics to study, if people last year o batch can remember, the topics i choosed to mug is really scary
healthcare, bonding, venice... thank god that bonding come out
hmm...i see many thx to Wish (: !!
i guess i kinda hav the same feelins as you. i dun lyk to give up any one of my sciences in xchange for a humans either. but if i choose to take double sci, the chances of gettin a better L1R5 is higher(2 humans) so if i take double sci, i'll have to sacrifice pure phy i guess.
and i like science more too for the same reasons as well. whilst humans needs lots of explaination n evidence n stuff.
yesh,i did some jc subj comb research as well. im aiming for njc which doesnt have any triple sci options i think. hwa chong does have triple sci but i dun think im gd enuff aniways. i agree tat takin triple sci does include more course choices. i dun plan on any humans course aniways.
thx for your explainations n examples! they REALLY helped :D
although i loved biology
NEVER FORSAKE PHYSICS FOR BIOLOGY, IT IS WAY MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN BIO
Btw, my JC subject combi is bio, chem, econs, maths all 4 H2
haha..thx to SBS n SMRT too! (btw, i like ur name :p)
yeah, i think i can handle(hopefully) elect geog as long as i put in the effort
thx for ur encouragement too! nice to see seniors satisfied with their choices :D
hmm..okies. i kinda rounded down my choices:
1)triple sci +ss/geog
2)pure chem/bio + ss/geog + pure lit
3)pure chem/bio + ss/lit +pure geog
A BIG THX TO EVERYONE SO FAR :D
ooh...no wonder most seniors i talked to say physics is impt.
gahh. im kinda confused now. let me take some time to think.. HMMM
haha. thx again SBS n SMRT :D
If you intend to study Science in the Uni, Triple Science FTW, no doubt about it.
Others on this thread (and on your Stomp forum thread) have already provided good reasons why. Ultimately, it is to allow yourself to keep your Science options open in the JC/poly, and thereafter in the Uni.
woah. okies. i jus realised you replied on both my threads.
haha. thx again!
I think everyone else has already given very sound advice.. but just to add on.
You scored decently well for English, so have faith in your own ability. Even with only one humanities, hard work and your natural flair (I assume) for the language should pull you through.
All the best.
aww.. thx Dejomel for ur reply and encouragements
haha. yeah,everyone's been a great help :D
nah. im not THAT gd in english. haha. but i believe that i can do well by working hard!
thx again!
Biology theories and body parts will make you die .
Chemistry theories will make you die .
Physics formulas will make you die .
Humans has a fixed structure .
Just a penny of my thought .
haha. thx StrategisT' [] * :D
triple sci WILL BE TOUGH n stressing. but most ppl here gave me advice to go for triple sci :D
hmm..thx again!
