hi, i'm taking my O's this year and hoping i can get into the science stream in SAJC. but i'm not v confident i can get in. what kind of subjects are offered in the arts stream? can i go to the arts stream but do more science and maths subjects?\
and also, what is H1,H2?
tks :D
The grades of H1 subjects are worth half as much as the grades of H2 subjects when calculating university admission points.
The content of H1 subjects are half of that of H2 subjects, but of equal difficulty.
GP and 2nd language are H1 subjects. Science subjects can be H2 or H1.
In JCs (ie. school candidates) you must study a contrasting subject (eg. econs is a contrasting subject for science students), which can be either H1 or H2.
Most students choose (or their JCs only offer such subject combinations) to have their contrasting subject as their H1 subject.
You can download the syllabuses (both H2 and H1) for all the subjects here :
http://www.seab.gov.sg/aLevel/syllabus/schoolCandidates/2011_GCE_A.html
As for your qn "can i go to the arts stream but do more science and maths subjects?", this depends entirely on your JC. Some JCs have flexible subject combinations, while other JCs do not.
Hi,
Go visit SAJC Open House on 31 July 2010 between 9.30am and 3pm on Saturday.
Visit SAJC website: http://www.standrewsjc.moe.edu.sg/home/
Thanks.

Arts stream usually consists of
Geography
History
Economics
Literature (eng/chinese)
Most likely, you can't go to an arts stream to do more science subjects, otherwise it wouldn't be called an arts stream. Because ultimately, you have only subjects to choose from, and commonly, one of the subjects is H2 maths. At the very most, you can only do 1 more science subject, I believe.
Of course, not forgetting the more uncommon Arts Subjects...
H2 Knowledge & Inquiry (to be done in lieu of H1 General Paper)
H2 English Language and Linguistics
H2/H3 Art
H2/H3 Music
H1 China Studies in English/Chinese
H1 General Studies in Chinese
You can probably only do that in Yishun Junior College. I know I sound like I'm just trying to get recruits for YJ, but I'm not. It's just true... In YJC, you can study anything you want. There's no specific subject combinations at all. but you still need at least one contrasting subject. you can't be pure arts or pure science.
