  Solve the following equation using the synthesis method

  4x^3 - 4x^2 -16x +7 = 0 

   

  Anyone knows what is the synthesis method?

    Long division, I feel, is more intuitive.

  I am unable to find a "nice" factor

  usu should be able to find a factor then make use of factor theorem and long division to fully factorize the polynomial

  any suggestions on how to solve this?

  I am no math whiz so i wanna know what can the above math be apply in real life engineering or programming?

  i.e what is the tangible outcome?

  Yes, i admit that there is no clear answer,

  X = -1.79, 2.37 or 0.413 (3SF), hence, it is virtually impossible to use long division. Neither synthetic division will work. Did you read the question correctly or could you scan the question for us.

  If all is correct, try these

  For EL509WS Sharp calculator, {Mode}-{2}-{3}, enter coefficients, hence get answer.

  If possible to get hold of a Texas Instrument Graphing Calculator, PolySim2 works the same, APPS --> PolySim2

  Graphical method may also be used.
