As you can refer me from my ID, im currently taking my O lvls this year and in one months time left. i studied math from morning to 9 in the night in school, but i can never cope with all the other subjects plus i am still weak in math. i hope to meet the requirements for NAFA or an architecture course in any Polytechnics, can someone out there tell me if i am studying in the correct manner? and will i succeed? i hope that one day i would fufil my dream of becoming an engineer or architect
Relax la
Dont stress yourself too much.
Since you say your dream is to become an engineer or architect, then the course for you to study is Civil Engineering.
Check out the entry requirement. Maths just practice TYS. Keep doing and doing until you sick and tired of it.
Last time i take 'O' level, i only start to study 2 weeks before. Everyday practice maths TYS and science becoz these 2 are my weakest.
In the end, maths get C6, just nice to go engineering.
I remember Ngee ann poly got a civil engineering course but I tink they change the name or what thats why i cannot find for you.
But the requirements should be more or less same with SP.
Usually civil engineering cut off point is around 19-21.
not trying to be a wet blanket, if you are weak in maths, engineering is not what you want to do
first of all, are you weak in maths or additional maths?
if you are already having problems with maths then you'll be very demoralise when you encounter engineering maths
speaking from experience

I speak to you from my experience
I was O level C6 e maths
i went to engineering and took engineering maths and i realise engineering maths is easier that the E maths in sec school.
I was worried at 1st, but in my engineering poly life, maths is the subject i always score well.

well, i had the opposite experience
O level e maths A1
O level a maths C6
Poly engineering maths (Mechatronics) - cheated to pass
first of all thx for reply and supporting me with answers, i don't really worrying about retaining actually... reap what you sow is what i always believe thats y if i should retain, i will make sure i work damn hard for my best 5 subjs
PedoBear: actually you have a good point, but no matter what, i will still take engineering.. i have many reasons for taking up that course and its my personal interest
gunner77: woah i wish i was as lucky as you... are u an engineer now??
Nope, im not engineer. Doesn't mean you study engineering means you will become engineer.
And I am not trying to put you off, but i want to warn you about civil engineering. Civil engineering is really not a stroll in the park. You need do alot of drawing, both hand sketch as well as computer drawing ( They call it Autocad all engineering students surely know this ). You need to study about buidlings, bricks etc etc. You need to memorise them. Basically alot of theory.
But then again, if this is really what you want, go ahead you have my support. If you really have the passion for this, you will clear all these easily.
Oh ya, don't worry about engineering maths la. If uncle like me can do well, you surely can. Just listen and you will realise engineering maths and O level maths is 2 different thing.

Engineering maths is farking easy on its own, but when you need to apply it to statics, and mechanics like in the superposition theory, then the fun begins.
Don't worry, the above only applies mainly to mechanical and electrical engineering. Civil engineering uses maths in a totally different way. Mainly, I don't really know. Probably statistics?
I am a mechanical engineer by practice, and I can tell you the real job of an engineer is dirty, low pay, irregular hours, and no work life balance. Those engineers you see sit in front of a desk the whole farking day are just namesake, or they are just there because they finished their tour of duty because they are older, injured, or no longer physically fit enough to undertake their actual duties.
If I had kids, I wouldn't want them to be engineers, I would prefer they be doctors, lawyers, or bankers, maybe property agents like my friends who earn over 30k a month, and change sports cars like I change my underwear.
Engineering maths all the same one.
No what course all same one, learn the same thing.
In poly all learn the same thing, in uni, all hell breaks loose.
Noel, I want to add on to what ditzy say. Begin an engineer is really not easy. Lets just say, you and another friend la. Your friend study buisness while you study engineering.
Once you all graduate, you go and become engineer. Your friend is those office desk boy.
You all take the same pay, but you work longer hours. Then everyday he go to work, nice nice office wear with perfume wah stylo milo. then you t-shirt, jeans and safety shoe.
After work, your friend take mrt, nice nice still got perfume smell but you take mrt, dirty smelly.
Your friend always in air con while you always in the hot sun.
Being engineer good meh?
But since you say you really want to become engineer, then go ahead. I hope to see you having the passion and the sense of the satisfactory when you build roads, expressway, shopping centre for people.
Then next time you can tell your gf, father mother, " Hey i was the one engineer tat build this road, building, expressway etc etc..."
Either way, don't take H2 Mathematics if you ever head to junior college.
Just my $0.02 :)
That passion will wear out after you see your friend drive a mazda rx-8 on tuesday, and then an audi r8 the following saturday.
aww man...actually i love drawing, drawing and music is my life. other than architecture, i cnt seems to find another job that requires creative drawing skills with a good pay. being an artist is useless in singapore, your pictures will only gain fame and money after ur're dead
most important is knowing what you are truly passionate with most of the time, and if what u have passion need maths....u must get it through...
like most entrepreneurs...many make tonnes without knowing much maths...some even worse...but they know the importance...the force themselves to learn i.e. accounting and basic finance....
u need to SPECIFY...drawing?...what types? buildings or still life? ....
one of the most important buzzword for the art of success starts with s as well...
the art of specifications - of what u really want and work towards it without much talking but doing it
You like drawing then go and study those design course.
thats what i thought of at first too, but im afraid im not up to it.
Fcukpap: erm... i like to draw faces, people, cartoons and so on. but that wont get me anywhere....
