Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here and I would like to seek your advices.
I am planning to take O levels as a private candidate next year and here are the subjects that I am interested in:
English
Higher Chinese
Physics
Biology
Chemistry
A Maths
E maths
Humanities elective with Social Studies
Humanites
So far, I have been doing some study on my own and practising assessment books, and find most of the topics pretty manageable but I encounter some difficulties that I would need some advice.
1. I find A maths pretty complex; the initial topics are fine but latter ones-trigo, calculus and ,to some extent, algebra is pretty perplexing. Its really difficult getting all the formulaes into my head and how do you actually do well for these topics and does anyone know of any good books for A maths?
2. I am still undecided what humanites I would be taking. I am interested in Literature but as a private candidate, I fear that I don't have the environment and resources to do well in it. So, do you think I should take up Literature?
These are the 2 topics that have been bugging me and any advices would be welcome.
Your time for reading this message is much appreciated. Thanks!
How long have you graduated from yr sec sch?
I didn't complete my Os in sec school and I left school two years ago. Now I want to catch up on my studies.
lol. i'm currently taking my 'o's. i tot a maths paper over alr?
I see. So how was it?
Wish you luck!
No prob luhh. You taking nxt year's paper? o.0
Hi, i think constant practise on the A-level ten year series is helpful.
For literature, i personally think classes are important as its not so much of a factual subject like history or geographically. But if facts appeal to you rather than analyzing characters, history or geographically might be a better choice.
Humanities with SS a mandatory subject?
I'm planning to take Private Os too, and plan to drop Humanities w/ss, wondering if it's possible.

A Maths is all about practice.
With practice, you may find it even easier than E Maths.
I will suggest you take something such as geog rather than Lit.
To score for Lit, you will need a good tutor. It is not impossible to self study for Lit, but it is near impossible to score well by self studying without external help.

YES if you wish to continue to pursuit education here
Hi,
What personally worked for me was to go through repeatedly A-maths ten year series and kept practising. At times when i don't understand, i will refer to the answer and memorize it first. Later on, as i increase understanding in other questions, i will also understand the memorized answer.
For humanities wise, i took lit and geog. Yea, i agree studying lit has to be in an environment where someone can direct you towards character analysis.
I personally felt geog was easier as its more factual, relying on more facts and application of them. History should be around the same case. So geog and hist. might be humanities that are easier to self study for a private candidate as compared to lit.
Hope it helps.
By the way is business studies a must to take for an O level subject? I plan to subsitute it for other subjects, along with Humanities w/SS.
