Where would you like to study dentistry?
Accoding to the NUS dentistry website, entry to dentistry is based on the Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced level examination.
go JC, then go NUS dentistry
hang on to bio.
So that means bio is a req? My bio is only 60+ range, physics is 50+.
Im currently having private tuition for physics, and physics crash course revision for all sec 3 topics...
Meaning if I take the JC route, what combinations should I take. Roughly what L1R5 should I aim for?
Bio or physics, according to the website.
JC take science stream
L1R5: 6? As low as possible.
tts good.
even more competitive.

I wish to take dentistry in my post-secondary education to be a dentist. Would it be easier to be a dentist if I go through the poly route or the jc then uni route or the poly then uni route?
This are my subject combinationsamaths
emaths
eng
chinese
combined humans (ss/geog)
bio
chem
phy
Currently I have abit of problems with my bio and phy, I'm considering to drop one if necessary. However does dentistry require bio or phy?
For local entry to dentistry in NUS through poly, there is only one known case thus far if I am not wrong. Thus, JC will be a better route, unless you aim to study dentistry in overseas unis.
Each undergraduate batch will only have about 40 people, as compared to about 300 in Medicine. Thus, you can see how incredibly competitive it is going to be.
Dentistry... this course are usually very popular among those who didn't make it to Medicine. :)
Each year, only less than 500 are from medicine. Those who didn't make it, will most probably go to Dentistry.
Each year, roughly 15 000 student took A Level Exam. :) Aim high, and reach there safely.
You are still young, and still have time to work on foundation... I understand you have a great passion! Work hard towards it! =D If you require any help in your homework, come to this forum. :)

well......its not if u want it or not.....COMPETITION rules your application...demand and supply as well....that is the reality....surely straight As will get in first with the most excellent results without dropping any subjects ....u get to choose with impeccable results...
and of course..."dunces dun get to choose" concept here....
always have an alternative route other than NUS....go and out first which will be the next most recognized by MOH board and the nitty gritties of how to get yourself licensed and be able to practice....from here...if u know how tough it is for foreign university to succeed here....better study real hard for NUS......
but first, confirm and re-confirm your teething passion ....

poly come out one cannot be dentist
oni can be asst
WHat?! Poly come out can only be assistant. =[ That's the saddest thing I heard today =[ The day just barely started...
Nvm then JC shall I go
JC then uni. From NUS medical batch, the dentistry intake is super small, you must be the best of the best of the bestest to even get in.
Don't just because ppl say poly come out can only be assistant then you decide to go JC.
If you can't be a dentist, then try some other jobs, or rather try other avenues, You won't die just because you can't be a dentist, Think about it, if you can afford being 'lifeless', then go ahead for the JC route, if not, keep your options open, you still have a year to decide where you are going.

Just to add on, hehe-haha-hoho, remember, it is still possible to enter dentistry in NUS even if you enter poly. If one person has done it before, it means that others may be able to do it as well. (Though this one person is really a very impressive individual - not many people can keep up good grades while frequently volunteering and helping out in community service areas.)
If you are really determined to become a dentist, and you are unable to make it to NUS dentistry (Touchwood), you can always go overseas to study, though you must be prepared to work really hard, as overseas studies will be very expensive.

The competition in recent years has been very keen. Applicants are first short listed based on academic results. Of course there are some who merit special considerations. Those who make it through are invited for a manual dexterity test and an interview. I believe that the final decision is made there.
The only poly student (that I know of) who was accepted because he had excellent credentials and impressed at the interview. His story was reported in the local media.
Most of the successful applicants had ‘A’ levels and had straight As. Then again most students took the ‘A’ levels…
The IB student I know of had perfect score of 45.
Hope this info is helpful. Wishing you a Blessed Christmas and a wonderful new year .
In the year 2006, two SP students went to the NUS study Medicine in NUS. lol! I paste the laminated news article on my wall... even till today. It turned brown already.
