Hi,
We see the use of limits in these specific contexts within H2 Maths, just to mention a few:
1. Geometric series,
2. Method of differences,
3. Binomial expansions,
4. Maclaurin series,
5. Graphs.
Limits are interesting because there exist a finite number (value or number of terms) in a case where one has to deal with an infinite quantity.
Limits also deal with behaviours when we discuss about neighbourhoods, as such the limit of (sin x)/x as x approaches to 0.
In short, we learn about limits to appreciate
1. the finite in the infinite,
2. the characteristic of some neighbourhood value.
P.S. I have modified the title to reflect the true nature of this discussion. Thank you for your understanding, theWEIRDme.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
Limits exist because we like our lives to be easier when doing maths.
And also because certain functions tend to but does not include certain values.
