You're totally welcome. And remember to always feel free to post your Phys/Chem/Bio/Maths qns here on SgForums anytime.
Hi,
What can one do with a comprehension passage (at O-level or H1-level)?
1. The most straightforward use is for one to practise comprehension skills.
2. One can pick up vocabulary words and how they are used.
3. One can gain more insight about a topic area (e.g. advertising), which will be useful in writing essays (e.g. influence of mass media) related to the same area.
4. One can learn about the use of topic sentences and how substantiation of points can be brought about.
5. One can hone his/her skills in essay development by modelling after the way the passage presents its ideas to the reader.
6. One can use the passage to practise oral reading; this applies to O-level EL only.
Thanks!
Cheers,
Wen Shih
Hi,
One can learn more about essay writing (relevant for EL or GP) from this book:
Cracking the GRE 2009 Edition by The Princeton Review.
It is available from National Library branches.
I have extracted some content and adapted it for our reference.
Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
Thanks, Wen Shih! I have just began GP lecture a few days ago and your information come just in time! =)
>> What about the characteristics of H2 maths? Is it more like A Maths?
No, it isn't.
There are topics in H2 that are not in A Maths (e.g., arithmetic progression and geometric progression).
There are topics that are covered in A Maths, but covered in greater depth in H2 (e.g., binomial theorem, which at the H2 level, includes -ve and fractions exponents).
There is also the statistics part of H1 and H2 Maths, which is completely absent in A Maths.
Compilation of GP Essay titles can be found at http://ascklee.org/Stuff.html (scroll all the way to the bottom)

Yes, CS Toh's Advanced Study Guide will be helpful for Poly Chem Engineering (I've tutored poly Chem Engineering students before). To buy it, call 9682 3583 (Peter Soh), and tell him you want to buy a copy of CS Toh's Advanced Study Guide, and (to prepare for your chem engineering tests) CS Toh's Chemistry Practice Questions books (both the structured qns book and the MCQ book).
