to cut things short, my math has always been on the edge of not making it. but with lotsa help and extra work/practice i've managed to scrape through. i'm kind of slow at understanding and relating to the math concepts.
but JC math has been really tough on me because i completely cannot grasp or visualise the concepts. (and we're only doing graphing D: )
My old tutor doesn't teach the A-level syllabus and my school is one that zooms through the syllabus, and i'm pretty much screwed.
I've tried reading guidebooks and borrowing the reccomended books from my school library, but i still can't get it.
>>>are there any tuition centres/ tutors to reccomend? or is there anything that i should do? e.g. good study tips or something?
i'm quite at a loss, cause i'm more of an arts/humanities type of a student but i'm in a science class now so it's kind of frustrating... cause my friends will try with great patience to explain to me, but i just won't get it. X:
i know some of the mods are also holding classes, but i stay in quite far west so it's a little hard for me to head over D:
thanks guys for reading and all :D
Hi stuffedbears,
The way an arts student learns is different from the way a science student does.
From my past teaching experience, an arts student will want to understand the logic of things and appreciate the problem's context (which takes time), whereas a science student just wishes to go straight to the method and solve the problem (which allows for a speedier coverage of syllabus that a school desires very much to do so).
Sometimes, a student does not get it because of the inappropriate teaching method that is a mismatch to the learning profile of the student. This may be the situation you are in.
You may wish to contact my fellow tutor Mr Ng Foo Keong for tuition. I will PM you his contact number.
In the meantime, you may refer to materials (covering smart ways to master H2 Mathematics) on my website at
wenshih.wordpress.com
I also write very extensively about minute aspects of H2 Mathematics on SgForums's thread at
http://www.sgforums.com/forums/2297/topics/356377
Finally, you can always post your queries and we will try our best to clarify them :)
Keep trying to improve! Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih
thanks so much!
and what you said was so true and to the point!

can i also ask if there are any centers to avoid? because i've been getting quite a few flyers every morning when i walk to school... the locations are quite convenient so i feel kind of tempted, albeit slightly dubious... :P
Hi,
I am in no position to comment on other centres. One may be lucky to get a tutor who is doing the right thing. Thanks.
Cheers,
Wen Shih

Hey! (: i hope that i can help! I got some good recommendations so if you still need to get a math tutor can always e-mail me at [email protected].
Will give you relevant contact details to make arangements! (:
yo! i am personally a tutor myself who specialises in maths. i am not trying to sell my service to you. but you can always turn to online tuition agencies. they will help you source out the right type of tutors for you :) But ultimately, its best to study on your own. If you have problems on schoolwork, form your own study groups with your friends (i am sure there are those unselfish ones around) and help each other out! :D
