  1. A bucket of water is brought up from a well 9.68m deep by a drop which winds round a drum 22cm in diameter. How many turns of the handle are required to bring up a bucket from the bottom of the well? ( Take pi as 22/7 )

  circumference = pi x diametre 22/7 x 22cm = 484/7cm (1 round) 9.68m = 968 cm 968 / 484/7 = 14 rounds

  Hi,

    1. Find the circumference of a turn, in metres.

    2. Divide the depth by the result from 1, rounding the answer to the nearest whole number.
