I am a foreign student.
I came to Singapore as a sec3 student and this year I am having my O levels. Today my form teacher gave us our CCA grades and points and my bonus point is ZERO.
I didnt expect that super disappointing result at all. I know my CCA was quite boring(Green Club) and we seldom had opportunities to get CCA points, unlike those in band or uniform groups. so i made an effort to attend every single session. i thought attendence is an important part of my result. I thought even if I didnt take part in much activities, If my attendence is perfect, my result would still be okay. But today when I saw my result, i was really shocked. I missed two years in this school, but still I need to follow the CCA grading scheme which is set for those who stayed four full years in the school. Is that really fair? I konw the programmes and activities I took part in were less than my classmates did, but does that mean that i deserve a zero? One of my friend asked the teacher, and her answer was: the scheme is like that and she could not help.
Another friend of mine was in the same CCA as me. Today she told me that her bonus point is one, She came to Singapore one year earlier than me and I dont think she did many things in that year.(no offence. im just telling the truth.) but still, she got that one point.
I am really frustrated now. I dont know what to do. My mother told me to talk to the teacher but I don't see the point of talking to her. Anyway she wont change my result because the scheme "said" so.
Could anyone tell me in which condition will a person get zero for his/her CCA? So that i will know what went wrong.
extremely poor attendance
did not take part in competitions at all (thus, did not win anything at all)
no hold any position in the club
you sure never had any CCA in your previous school. or didn't prove that you have cca in ur previous school
this should help you....go and read your student handbook please

Very informative.
I think it is you that should make the effort to do work for CCA points, I am the environmental club chairperson in my secondary school days and I got an A1 for it, 2 bonous points. Try to find some CIP (like clean ups - do join the coastal cleanup) or take up some leadership positions. (Chairperson = 6 pts )
you should go for more CIP.

I indeed didnt have any CCA in my preious school. Actually in my country, or I should say in the province i lived, we dont have a thing called CCA.
if ur academic subjects are very good, u do not need CCA pts at all

No I am not a scholar.
I came to Singapore through the Admission Exam for International Student (AEIS).
its just CCA points.
Why do you need it?

I dont really know how the grading scheme works. I dont know what kind of CCA activities would help me gain CCA points. I think last year I just took part in activities blindly without knowing what on earth they were about.
Isnt it too late to do CIP now? will it affect my CCA result? BTW, i am the green ambassador of my class. Will it help? (ps: I just accidently became so "green". LOL.)
Don't worry.
When you apply for jobs next time after schooling, I can bet you nobody will be asking you what your CCA points were in school.
concenrate on preparing for the Os.

I think my academic results are quite good, my L1R5 for last year was six and for this year was seven. My English is not good and I take higher MT. My school is not so good I think that is one of the reason why my results are good.
My O level target is six points but now I am very nervous. I mean I am top in my school, but I know clearly that comparing with those students from the top schools, I am nothing, especially my English is so weak. Besides that, if I want to go into the top JC like VJC, I need to get less than six points. If I dont have bonus point, I wont be able to achieve that.

T_T because I wanna go into a better JC. Having one bonus point is better than nothing. T_T
if u get 6 or 7 for Os, u do not need CCA pts
