Hey guys!
So which route is a better of an advantage to go into the doctor career.
Currently i'm taking a levels year 1. Is a levels the best route? or should 1 transfer to poly cos there is more practicals and internships.
I'm taking h2 bio chem math and h1 econs. is this sufficient?
Ps. Many qns to ask! :)
Which field?
JC route for sure.
As for poly route, even you graduate with a full GPA 4.0/4.0, you may not have a chance to continue your study in NUS Medicine Faculty. There are years when the faculty only accepts full scorers from A levels.
Since you are already in the JC route, stay in it.
There have been one case where a poly student (can't remember was it nursing or veterinary) went to medicine I think... It was well publicized because I think she was the first one, or something about being very rare...
Poly route is harder to get into uni in the first place.
Poly route into medicine? You can forget it totally. For medicine, even perfect score JC students have trouble getting in. No one will even look at poly grads.
Sorry for putting it like this.
but my poly friends say their chances higher.
One of my friend took biotech in poly and she say if GPA very good then will have a very good place.
Nevertheless, which course should i take up if i wanna be a doctor? or go medical school first? Duke NUS? only this route after a levels?
A level route ftw!

Higher chances? Always thought the nus medfac to be snoobish like hell. How will your poly friends know this anyway? Have they been accepted to nus medfac?
oooh! so i will have more chances than her to enter medcine school?
But arent universities finding people will more skills, like practical skills, which jc students lack of....
no wait.. she say from poly >uni> study medicine> goes into medcine school ...
A level lah.
Meidicine go through POLY FOR WHAT?
SERIOUSLY. DON'T HEAR PEOPLE SAY THEIR FREIND SAY. CAUSE YOU ARE NOT THEIR FRIEND. And most importantly, IS SHE OFFERED A PLACE IN UNI YET? NO? THEN MEANS ITS A LIE.
TRADITIONAL ROUTE IS THE BEST.

Yes but the poly student actually had a chance to studied in RJC but rejected.

Haha... I believe what you are talking about are employers. Some employers prefer poly grads to uni grads for certain jobs. I think this is the case for some engineering jobs. This has been mentioned in the papers before. Even so, in my opinion, these employers are the minority. Looks like a good publicity drive for polytechnics to me.
As for admission to university, for a highly sought-after course like medicine, there is already intense competition for entry amongst JC students. I doubt poly students are even considered. I kinda recall one case of poly to nus medicine in the papers long ago, which says so much about the rareness of such admissions if it can in newspapers.
It may be possible, but i suggest that you just take the conventional and much less tedious path of JC to NUS medfac.
Anyway, good luck whichever route you choose! =)
Definitely A Level route, poly route you can forget about getting into local universities, let alone NUS Medcine.
The only way to become a doctor in Singapore is to get into NUS Medicine.
