Guys, I'm currently studying Common Engineering at NTU.
Would be selecting my course of specialisation after this semester. Would be choosing from Civil, Electrical, Environmental and Mechanical. Not really much of any idea of what to choose.
I'm thinking of Mechanical. But what do you guys think?
Good thinking. Go with your thoughts, dun look back. Its just not the same on the ground but ppl with mech background can relate to alot of shit due to the discipline.
I'm from Mechanical Engineering at NUS.
Best I can tell you is to decide where your best interests are.
Anyway, Mechanical is not a bad choice; mechanical engineers are highly versatile and multifaceted. Lots of industries demand them.
fudgester, could give me more of an insight into Mechanical Engineering? How's the course like and what are the industries that demand them.
Currently wavering at the crossroads.
Mechanical Engineering is very diverse. The different disciplines under it include energy/thermal systems engineering, fluid mechanics, applied mechanics, robotics, aeronautical engineering, oil and gas engineering, biomechanics.... you name it.
I cannot say what the course is like at NTU, but at NUS you learn a little bit of everything in the first three years. Then you have a choice to specialize in any of those disciplines, though you can choose not to if you want.
I think you can already guess what kind of industries require mechanical engineers. Energy industries, water systems industries, construction industries, oil and gas industries.... you name it.
