I have only 15 AUs this semester nd my course requires me to take a
total of 138 AUs. Currently in common engineering, planning to go into
mechanical engineering.
I was too intent on playing catch up on my physics and mathematics
during my first three week into university life. Well, I didn't work
especially hard when I was in JC. Head wasn't particularly straight. Now
that i'm settling into my rhythm, can't help feeling that this would
become a big mistake.
Would I rue this too much?
For your first semester, it's quite tolerable although in the later 3rd and 4th year you'll realize that you could have cleared your electives faster.
Also, it's only when you're in 2nd year that you begin studying more Mech related modules which will be the start of university challenges.
It's a tad too late to be adding modules but if you can, next semester, start clearing electives or consider picking up a minor while your timetables still tolerable.
If later in uni you realize you've to clear more modules, consider taking GIP and also IO instead of IA.
That's just my point of view though since I've always took ~20 AUs per semester, leaving my Final Year quite lenient to focus on FYP.
But is industrial orientation less appreciated then industrial attachment? By GIP, are you referring to global immersion programme?
or should i consider taking up special semester?
This is what I did, but in NUS. Not AUs, but MCs.
My course needed 161 MCs over 8 semesters. I took 181 MCs to learn things I find interesting, i.e. German and Japanese language.
1st Sem: 23 MCs
2nd Sem: 25 MCs
3rd Sem: 24 MCs
4th Sem: 24 MCs
Special Sem: 6 MCs
5th Sem: Industrial Attachment (12 MCs) + 1 night module (4 MCs)
6th Sem: Student Exchange (20 MCs)
7th Sem: 19MCs + 6MCs from FYP
8th Sem: 12 MCs + 6MCs from FYP ==> Realised only 12 MCs? To focus on FYP.
Looking back, if I didn't clear so many modules in the first 2 years, I might not have the time or flexibility to go for attachment or exchange. The student exchange was the highlight of my uni life.
However, this is a lot a lot of hard work.
Like what toiletries said, it is too late to add modules now. So the best you could do is to do really well for this semester, and decide if you want to bump up your AUs next semester. Make the best use of your decision. If you took lesser AUs than normal, use the extra time to make sure you really score.
yeah, I understand. Can't help thinking about it though.
Did a little maths.
2nd Sem: 21 AUs
3rd Sem: 21 AUs
4th Sem: 21 AUs
5th Sem: Industrial Attachment 10 AUs
6th Sem: 21 AUs
This would leave about 27 AUs for me to clear in my last year. Would the workload be too much?
With 21 AUs, that would mean about 7 mods to clear every semester.
