I'll be considering retaking my A levels as a private candidate next year after I ORD. Regrettably my SPA results are void. Can anyone please point out to me the difference between the SPA paper and Paper 5 which is the Practical paper for private candidates?

It may be a blessing in disguise if you did badly in your SPA.
To prepare for P5 as well as the Planning Qn in P2, download the Cambridge Planning exam papers and mark schemes, that I've provided links to, on my webpage :

Would the SEAB paper 5 be a purely written-based one with no handling of lab apparatus as i've seen in the cambridge example you've linked?

No such luck. You'll have to handle lab apparatus and actually carry out practical experiments in Paper 5.
after such a long time without lab practice i've probably lost all motor skills related to handling the apparatus... is there any way I could refresh my practical skills as a private candidate?
