hey guys! can someone help me with the meaning of the word stemming.
the sentence is 'the band director pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct stemming from his relationship with a 16-year old.'
what does steming really mean? and can the synonym of that word be starting or growing?
thanks:)
Do you know there are things like hardcopy of dictionary, online dictionary and google you can use?
u know, plant got the main stem rite
then branches out into the stalks and leaves
growing is rather close
more like "derived", "brought about..."
can also be "originate", "developed"
@winsomeea do you know that sometimes you must find the words that fit into the sentence's context and i couldn''t find one that fitted well so i have to ask you guys for help :) thanks for your help too!

Another source you can try is online or hard copy Thesaurus.
Secondary school right? :)
Once you find the meaning of this word already, try to use this word again tomorrow. :) record down the sentence that you've included the new word in a logbook.
@winsomeea thanks a lot!
@darkness_hacker99 yup!! yeah, i am trying to do that to improve my english vocabulary. i hope it does help. thanks anyway :)
roget's thesaurus is one of the bests
popular i think no have
u can go kinokuniya to get
how about oxford's thesaurus?and what is the full title of the thesarus?
oxford i think quite crappy
but good enough for our sec sch level
im using merriam-webster (for dict)
For Dictionary, I strongly recommend Collins Cobuild - Advance Learners, comes with a disc, too.
This has explanation of some American English and tells difference in the spelling of American and British English. It has words like market research ........
I love it. My fav Dictionary.
Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is very good.

'the band director pleaded guilty to sexual misconduct arising from his relationship with a 16-year old.'
Read more English books (which use proper English! novels. Comics don't count.), den u won't have much problems with word meanings le. Not a foolproof plan but still pretty good =) English is something that confirmed cannot be learnt simply by using a dictionary or thesaurus etc. These tools are good for building our vocab bank but that's about it.
